Lowell, Mu UNLAWFUL INQUESTS. Ibe Taxpayers' Assoclntlon Protests Against Faying Fees. Much criticism lias been beard becanso of the largo number of unnecessary and unlawful inquests being held by tbo Deputy Coroners, especially in tbo Shenandoah and Mahanoy valloys. Most of tbeso cases are not such deaths as should have been inquired into by the Coroner, as tbo only object of an inquest is to aid in tho detection of crime. Where it is apparent that the death has been caused by disoase, suicide, pure accident or negligence of tho deceased, 110 inquest is necessary, and if one is held the county cannot bo charted with the costs.

Tliif is in accordance with a recent judicial decision. The Taxpayers' Association havo filed with the County Controller a protest against the payment of fees to Deputy Coroners in certain cases whore inquests are deemed to have been unnecessary. Out of the 75 in quests held during tho past four months in tho county, 35 of thorn are deemed illegal Tiio Controller is holding the matter undor ad visement, and will consult his counsel. The inquests against which protests have been entered in this section are the follow ing Mary A. Kelly, Margaret Cusserly and Kate Shatzader, all of Mahanoy City Win.

Ed Herald; The movement to change the tracks of the Schuylkill Traction Com. pany from Coal street te Centre should con tinuo to be agitated in the interest of the people of tho boreugh in general. Coal street is not only one of the narrowest streets in the borough, but there is more tralllc on that thoroughfare than any other in the town. I haven't the highest regard for this corporation, but having occasion to use Coal street frequently I certainly approve ot tho chance, and every teamster in the town, nn less he has personal interests otherwise, will agree with me. Agitate the movement until the Town Council is brought to realize that the public interests demand that Coal street bo abandoned by the electric railway.
