gone school closed Mayday festivities a thing of the past and now Cocoa has settled down to her summer regime Many of the STARS readers friends of Miss Sarah Wool Moore now in Brooklyn will be pleased to learn that she has turned her educational mind and heart to practical book making and has issued an illustrated EnglishItalian language book and reader Miss Moore has long been interested in the immigration of the Italians into the United States and has been instrumental in forming a society to meet and care for and direct the feminine portion who come here seeking friends or homes unprotected and helping them on their way Miss Moore has spent several years in Italy studying art and made herself familiar with the people and their language and is now putting that knowledge to practical helpful use to these strangers who seek admission to our shores The book is very simple and easy to understand and must be very helpful to those who desire to learn either the English or Italian languages Pioneer Association Meeting At the Pioneer association picnic the old officers were elected to succeed themselves I viz Hardee president II I Williams secretary Sanders treasurer By motion made by the president the time limit for pioneer members was extended to 1885 instead of 1SSO as previously arranged A very pleasant time was enjoyed on the old point where picnics of old were held and many old friends met and clasped hands as in days of yore It would be a good work for the association if they could gather funds enough to clear the point from all U1 lerhrn hIt would make an ideal recreation park for both old and young The grand old monarch of the forest would then show forth in all their glory and it would make a lovely resting place for pedestrians and cyclers on their way to and fro between the twin towns May Bay Celebration May day was celebrated in the usual style in Cocoa and people gathered from all points along the river spend a pleasant day Clear bright and beautiful the weather was all that could be desired After the picnic dinner the attractions were the races and some of the small boys made fun for the older ones in their attempts to secure the prizes offered Amos Woolen carried off the 300 for winning the obstacle race and Johnnie Patterson won the 1 30 prize for the shoe race as well as securing the 50 coin out of the pan of flour There was no bicycle parade as there were only four wheels decorated Miss Vera Hindle secured first prize for best decorated wheel and Miss Iva Dyal the second prize The parade was a disappointment The children were kept waiting so long last year before the parade was started that they hadno desire to enter this year and have their flowers all withered and them a elves so tired they could scarcely ride or I
