The remaining eight are now free agents and can make their own deal with NBA clubs. Picking second behind Chicago, the Atlanta Hawks traded their pick to the Portland Trail Blazers for Geoff Petrie. a 6-5 guard, and center Steve Hawes.

The Blazers named Lucas as their choice and paid $300,000 for his services. Portland paid $350,000 for Malone when picking in its regular turn. On the second round, all but Kansas City passed and the Kings took Mike Barr for $15,000. There was a third round, but no takers. The finals are Sunday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. NEW YORK (UPI) The Chicago Bulls, encouraged by a league investigation that showed no substance to a report Artis Gilmore had a heart condition, paid a designated $1.1 million Thursday for the 7-foot-two-inch center in the National Basketball Association dispersal draft of ABA stars. Team owners shelled out $2,972,750 for 12 former Kentucky and St.

Louis players who were made available for purchase when the two clubs were not included in the American Basketball Association's merger with the NBA. "The NBA conducted a probe of Artis Gilmore's heart condition and the investigation found no substance to the report he was ailing," said Simon Gourdine, the NBA deputy commissioner. "We had medical reports on 14 of the players as of September, 1975, and all checked out. But the owners made their selections today at their own risk." Portland laid out a total of $650,000 for Maurice Lucas and Moses Malone in a bid to dislodge Golden State as Pacific Division champion. There were 20 names in the dispersal draft, but only 12 players were Equestrian competition at Metcalfe Horse lovers are looking forward to the Ottawa Valley Hackney Futurity at the Metcalfe Fairgrounds, Saturday at 12.30 p.m.

It offers a fine opportunity to enjoy competition between the most promising hackney horses and ponies. Breeders will be here from as far away as the Maritimes and the central United States. The hackney is an old and distinguished breed of a high-stepping horse. Today they are seen primarily at horse shows although, now that the restoration and driving of vintage vehicles has grown to be such a popular hobby, the hackney has once again taken the spotlight. (CP) Lars Hansen said Thursday that money wasn't the only factor in his decision to leave North America and play for Cinzano of Milan, Italy, for the coming basketball season. The 6-foot-10 centre from this community east of Vancouver, a star with Canada's national team in the recent Olympic games in Montreal, said he was looking at his own personal future in choosing Cinzano over Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association, which made him their third-round draft choice in this spring's amateur draft. "I want to grow as a person, not to be known as Lars Hansen, player on an NBA team," the former University of Washington star said Thursday. "I had to look where I could develop my future as a basketball player and with Cinzano I will get all the playing time I want." Hansen wouldn't disclose terms of his agreement with the Italian club, but did admit it was twice the offer made by Chicago, with additional guarantees and bonuses. Hansen said he talked to Cinzano officials at the Olympic village during the basketball tournament, in which Canada placed fourth.

After several days of discussions, Hansen decided to reject the offer made by Bulls' general manager Jerry Krause. Chicago is attempting to sign American Basketball Association star Artis Gil-more of the defunct Kentucky franchise, which Hansen also said affected his decision to some extent. "I can't develop myself by sitting on the bench," he said, adding that he hasn't entirely ruled out the possibility of returning to the Have you tried our PAM PAM PLATTER?
