FALVEY, Sup't Santa Anita Ranch. 1 I NEW ADVERTISEMENTS NOTmjG EVER SINCE OUR SUCCESS in this community has become a settled fact, we have learned that the greatest of crimes is to excel; we have experienced that to be successiul is to create the hatred and enmity of such as aim to be merchants, but in truth have not the capacity and brains to superintend a small peanut stand. They are compelled either to steal our ideas and thoughts or resort to the debasing custom of telling willful lies and falsehoods about us, in hope of retaining their rapidly declining trade. It has become known as a positive fact that the wily double-dealers lay back in their dens until we make a successful move, when out they pounce and ape our very steal our very ideas, and some going so far as even to bribe our employees, in the hope of gaining in a dishonorable manner some few crumbs off our table. We tender our heartfelt sympathy and pity to these poor, brainless, would-be merchants; that when using our ideas in the future to be honorable enough to give us credit therefor.

We have established one of the most prosperous and successful business houses on the Coast, and place before our customers the best of articles at right and proper figures. The public have recoguized us as their champion, and are giving us their trade and confidence. This is the reason that people flock from all quarters to trade with us and pass the places of the ensnaring double-dealers and go directly to our store. The prosperous days of the Los Angeles double-dealers have passed away forever. We have become entirely too powerful an enemy for them to ever hope to conquer; but if they think the copying of our advertisements or the aping of our ideas will do them any good, they are welcome; for the results will be such that we have nothing to fear from the monstrous whale or the little shrimps.
