Record: Visit our obituaries archive online: Sallie Belle Howard William 'Bill' Fitgerald Sister Mary Rita Lavigne 1 ELIZABETHTOWN William "Bill" Fitzgerald (CW3 Army 76, passed away Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at his home. He was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Owensboro to William S. and Evalena Waltrip Fitzgerald.

Bill retired from military service after more than twenty years in the Army and three Vietnam tours of duty. He then retired as a field engineer manager for General Dynamics. Bill loved fishing, NASCAR and his dogs. His reputation as a great griller served him well as a volunteer cook at "Warm Blessings" in Elizabethtown. Bill was also a talented handyman installing wooden flooring and fixing whatever needed to be fixed.

He was preceded in death by both parents as well as three of his sisters, Ina Ruth Freels, Ida Elizabeth Ford, and Nora Marie Fitzgerald. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Patricia Van Winkle Fitzgerald; son Jeffrey L. Jennifer) Fitzgerald of Ridgefield, Connecticut; daughter Jennifer (Vernon) Aleshire of Elizabethtown; Sallie Belle Howard, 69, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, with loving family at her side. She was born in Owensboro to the late Joseph E.

and Flora B. Hinton Frantz. Sallie retired from Hillcrest (Signature Healthcare) after many years of service as a CNA She was a member of Saints Joseph Paul Catholic Church. Sallie loved church picnics, her flower garden and most of all spending time with family. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Joseph Hugh Howard, in 2005; a young daughter, Mary Jane Howard; grandchildren Desmond and Kaelyn; a sister, Mary; brothers, Joe, Bernard, Jim and John; and a twin brother, Billy.

She is survived by seven children, Joseph H. Howard Jerry (Kelly Ford) Howard, Jim Howard, Melissa "Missy" (Mendal) Fitzgerald, Elizabeth Qason) West, Randy Howard and Tom Howard, all of Owensboro; a stepson, Rick (Carol) Hurst of Hancock County; Allen R. Garner, 67, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born Aug.

4, 1948, in Owensboro to the late Houston and Etta Evelyn Howell Garner. He retired from Audrey's Septic. Aside from his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Smith and a brother, Curtis Garner. Surviving is one a sister, Mary Evelyn Ray of Leitchfield; three grandsons, Kevin Aleshire, Jesse Aleshire and Noah Fitzgerald; and four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jocelyn Tillie, Lyla and Elliot Aleshire. Funeral is noon Wednesday, Sept.

23, 2015, in the chapel at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Roger Freels, a nephew, will officiate along with Glenn Amerson. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Joyce Ann Mason MAPLE MOUNT Sister Mary Rita Lavigne, 93, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, in Owensboro in her 62nd year of religious life. A native of Topeka, Kansas, she enjoyed playing the piano by ear.

Sister Rita was an Ursuline Sister of Paola, Kansas, prior to that community's 2008 merger with the Ursulines of Mount Saint Joseph. She was a teacher in Kansas, using her acumen for business to help her students. Sister Rita also was business administrator for the Lakemary Center in Paola, which serves adults and children with developmental disabilities, from 1969-87. Sister Rita moved to Maple Mount June 1, 2009, and served in the community archives until her death. Survivors include a brother, Harry Lavigne of Des Moines, Iowa, nieces Alma Hillard, Joyce Keller and Rebecca Coley, all of Owensboro; his companion, Ona Campbell of Owensbor; two sons, seven grandchildren; and two special friends, David and Kelly Jackson.
