I I I I I I I I co COLOR Buyer Beware, COLOR Your article about Fujimoto Monterey Foods Profile, September, contained a rather serious error. There is, at present, no certification of mushroom pickers and sellers by any government agency. The Retail Food Protection branch of the FDA is currently considering a proposal that would require inspection of wild mushrooms by a properly qualified specialist. The proposal states, "The inherent danger associated with consumption of wild mushrooms is so great that the regulatory authority is justified in prohibiting the sale or service of such mushrooms in retail food operations where no local inspection program exists." The Bay Area has no local inspection program. Also, local mycological societies have not endorsed or certified any pickers.

Almost everything available in a grocery store or a restaurant is regulated to protect consumers- -yet wild mushrooms, traditionally shunned as dangerous, are sold without regulation. This situation must be remedied. Patricia George Editor, Mycena News Mycological Society of San Francisco Back to Square One I have avoided commenting on Larry Halprin's remarks on Washington Square, but the quote from him September that my late husband, landscape architect Douglas Baylis, was his collaborator is not a fact. The square was designed by Douglas Baylis and Francis McCarthy. To set the record straight, Thomas Church, noted landscape architect, was first consulted.

Then Halprin was hired to do a redesign. Unfortunately, his plans would have cost more than the $50,000 budget. McCarthy and Baylis were then asked to design and oversee construction. have the asdrawings. Halprin's design was not used.

Larry has a great talent, a great string of international successes. I'm sorry he feels a need to claim our modest park also. One of the dentists who set the standards. To belong to CDA, a dentist must do more than get a dental education and a state license. CDA will admit only those dentists who pledge to meet the high standards of practice and ethics established by the Association -standards that significantly exceed those demanded by law.

CDA member-dentists commit to establish practices to meet your needs, the needs of the profession and the community. They agree to abide by the decisions of peer review committees. And they also pledge to continue to improve their professional skills and knowledge, and to share that expertise with their colleagues. The goal of every CDA member is to continually improve standards of dental care in their practice and provide service to their community. So when you or someone in your family need dental care, seek out a member of the California Dental Association.
