It's hard to imagine a better aid to potty training than this half-hour. "Bear," a Jim Henson Television production for preschoolers, parents and caregivers, is a daily staple on Disney Channel. The potty-training episode debuts Sunday at 8 a.m., with at least two encores: Wednesday, March 10, at 10 a.m. and Monday, March 15, at 1 p.m.

With gentleness, humor and respect, the show addresses just about every known issue, from the pleasure of wearing underwear to the procedure of wiping, flushing and washing hands. Bear models understanding and patience, even when Ojo has an accident. There's much here to reassure a child, starting with Bear's promise to his antsy friend Tutter that the game they are playing will wait while Tutter takes a potty break. On the silly side, otters Pip and Pop encourage participation with their Mystic Order of the Toile-teers. Hardly anybody sings about potty training, but the three songs here may become household favorites, with lyrics like: "Learning how's fine ambition.

Come and join a long tradition! It's time to get to know your potty chair." They'll be lining up in the hall.
