I Examiner March 4, 1966 Obituaries Stella Herron, Noted Writer Services for Stella Herron, 79, early Stanford alumna, whose by-line long ago adorned The Examiner, Mencken's Smart Set, Harper's and Collier's, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Halsted's, 1123 Sutter st. Mrs. Herron died Wednesday at a local convalescent hospital. She is survived by a son, San Francisco attorney John -Wynne Herron, a resident of Hillsborough, his wife, Phyllis Newman Herron, and their sons.

John, Ronald and Scott Herron. VETERAN NEWSMEN recalled the early budding of Mrs. Herron's talent, and of her "Nob Hill Murder Mystery," serialized in The Examiner and later in other newspapers served by King Features Syndicate. In the World War I era she was associated in progressive causes here with Cora Baggerly Older, wife of famed editor Fremont Older. Later she went to Manhattan, lived and wrote in Greenwich Village.

Mencken published her poem, "The Chinese Calendar," in Smart Set as a tastic mirror of San Francisco Chinatown's charms. MRS. HERRON'S modern poems on Manhattan East Side, West Side, Fifth Avenue, Wall Street were published in a book, "The Bowery Parade," sponsored by Delphic Studio and illustrated by Mexican artist Clemente Orozco. Her verse also was included in "Continent's End," an anthology of California poetry, compiled by George ling, Robinson Jeffers and Gertrude Atherton, and published by John Nash, with Senator James D. Phelan and others as patrons.

She was a warm personal friend of Dr. Gobind Behari Lal, veteran science writer, who recalled that, proud of her Irish-American ancestry, Mrs. Herron traveled in the old world and the new, and used her poetry to combat racial prejudices and hostilities. Donald Joseph Ley Mrs. M.

Mackenzie Requiem Mass for Donald Joseph Ley, at 54 the veteran vice president and treasurer of California-Pacific Utilities 550 California was offered today at St. Teresa's Church, Oakland. Mr. Ley--by avocation an orchid fancier and jewelrymaking free lance rockhound-died of a heart attack night at his Chome, 5621 Thornhill Drive, Oakland. He won his B.S.

in business administration at Oklahoma State in 1934, joined deals with power, gas, water and phones in five western states--in 1936. He also was a director. He was a member of S.F. Security Analysts, Elks, Fernwood Community Club, and Pacific Coast gas and electrical associations. Surviving are his wife, daughters Donna Jo Ley and Mrs.

Phyllis Gra-mata, El Cerrito: stepdaughters Nancy, Charlene and Green, his mother, two brothers and a sister. Gertrude Israelsky Services for Gertrude Getz 82, widow of realty executive Samuel Israelsky, were conducted today at Simai Memorial Chapel by Rabbi 'Herbert Morris of Temple Judea, Westlake. Mrs. Israelsky, born in Virginia City, died in a Woodacre rest home Wednesday. Her husband, former vice president of Baldwin and Howell and past president of California Lodge, B'nai B'rith, died in 1945.

She is survived by sons Alvin, Melville and Louis Getz. Rudolph Miller Oxford University alumnus Rudolph Miller, about 67, for some 37 years maitre d'hotel at Olympic Club country club at Lakeside, died at St. Mary's Hospital yesterday. He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Lewis, 1662 36th whom he wed in 1950 when she was assistant to club manager Don Cameron. They honeymooned in rope often the theme of his outstanding photography of travel scenes around the world.

Also surviving are five sissters and a brother, three and two halfbrothers, all of his native Switzerland. He had retired some two years ago. Big Warehouse Fire in Oakland spectacular blaze, with flames shooting 75 feet high, gutted the empty A. Schuster warehouse at 41 Oak Oakland, last night. The cause was undetermined. No Funeral Services for TV Star HOLLYWOOD (UPI) Alice Pearce, 47, rubberfaced comedienne who played the role of the nosey neighbor, Gladys Kravitz, in the TV series "Bewitched," died of cancer at her home yesterday. No funeral services are to be held.

In a personal note, she asked that donations, in lieu of flowers be sent to the Nat Cole Cancer Foundation. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, she made her acting debut in 'On the Town" in 1944 on Broadway. She later repeated the performance in the film version. Thereafter she appeared on stage in "Look Ma, I'm Dancing," "Small Wonder," "Gentlemen Prefer "The Grass "Dear Charles," "Fallen Angels," "Copper and Brass," "Bells are ringing" and "Midgey Purvis." Her last Broadway appearance was in Noel Coward's "Sail Away" in 1963. Miss Pearce's career also included numerous films.

A veteran of the night-club circuit, Miss Pearce held the record for the longest engagement in the history of Manhattan's now defunct Blue Club-67 weeks. Recently, the comedienne and her second husband, Paul Davis were running an art galiery and framing shop here. Dr. Glasson, S. F.

Dentist, Dies at 71 After five years of hardrock mining in Grass Valley, begun at the age of 16, Pearce Glasson decided that there must have been something better. The 21 year old left his hometown in 1916 and came to the Bay Area, where he entered the University of California Dental School, working his way through, then entered private practice in San Francisco. Over the years he built up a busy practice, but found time to become an active clubman. He was a member of Alta Vista Lodge, A.M., Islam Temple of the Shrine, Sunnyside Post of the American Legion, All Episcopal Church, Xi Psi Phi fraternity, and a life member of the California Dental Association. Tuesday the busy life ended at 71 in a local hospital after a brief illness.

Doctor Glasson is survived by his widow Edith, of 49 Cameo Way, a son, Army Captain Robert P. Glasson, and two grandchildren. Private services were held yesterday in the family home. Contributions to the Franklin Hospital Building Fund are preferred. W.

E. Jaxon Miles Services for Comdr. W. E. Jaxon Miles, 63, of 221 Grand View were conducted at Gray's today by Dr.

John L. Hoff of First Congregational Church. Interment was at Golden Gate National Cemetery. Comdr. Miles, who retired in 1962 after 37 years of U.S.

Mrs. Mackenzie was a passenger in a war surplus B-26 bomber which had been verted for private use when it crashed into mudflats just after takeoff at Mexico City Airport. Her husband, Alistair, an executive with National Broadcasting Company, was seriously injured in the crash. Two others died in the crash. Mrs.

Mackenzie, 44, was granddaughter of the late San Francisco financier Mark L. Gerstle and daughter of Dr. Mark L. Gerstle chief psychiatrist of the California Youth Authority. She also is survived by her father; her mother, Mrs.

Marion Maitland-Hariot of San Francisco; two children, Carolyne, 15, and Patricia, 12; and a brother, public relations consultant Mark L. Gerstle III. William J. Dunn Requiem High Mass for William J. Dunn, 61, retired 20-year traffic manager for the San Leandro plant of Schering pharmaceuticals- antibiotics firm, was chanted at Holy Name Church today.

The rosary was recited last night at Hogan Sullivan's. World War II blasted Mr. Dunn into a new career.He had been a rhythm pianist all his life, had dance combos in Massachusetts, Illinois, vada and California, but came to San Francisco from Las Vegas when the Pearl Harbor attack plunged the nation into war. He transferred his membership to Musicians Local 6 here after prior membership in Illinois 88 and Las Vegas 368. In later years he played both.

Doctor Fulmer, X-ray specialist for this hospital and others in San Francisco for many years, died of heart failure Wednesday at his home at 300 San Benito Way. He was 71. Born in El Dorado, Dr. Fulmer received his medical degree at the University of Southern California in 1921. He was a member of the Olympic Club and several service and professional organizations.

Doctor Fulmer leaves his wife, the former Adeline Garibaldi, whom he married in 1941.
