Mrs. Baldwin Immigrated from Germany In 1955 and moved to San Francisco where she resided until she married Carey Baldwin, former Director of the San Francisco Zoo. Mr. and Mrs. Carey Baldwin moved to Fairfax In 1976 where they enloyed entertaining at their spacious ranch style home.

Mrs. Baldwin's favorite event was her annual Explorers Club garden party. She was an actively Involved member of the Explorers Club, the Zoological Society and Friends of Hearst Castle. Her favorite charities were those involved with the prevention of cruelty to animals. Erna was much beloved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

A transportation pioneer In the East Bay. Nick founded and organized Oakland's litney drivers into the West Oakland Motor Bus Lines, serving as their president. In 193S he merged his company with the Key System and served as superintendent of the Key System and. later. AC Transit Richmond Division for Oakland and west Contra Costa County, a career spanning 56 years.

He was born in 1901 In Zarakova. a small village near Trlpolis, Greece. At 15 he Immigrated to America lust ahead of the German blockade of W.W.I. Lured by the opportunities of a distant California, he saved to buy a car and drove west to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad In Oakland. In 1921, he purchased his first Jitney car and line, serving routes to the bustling Port of Oakland.

During the 'Jitney Wars' of the early thirties, Nick battled the Illegal encroachments of large transportation companies. He later successfully negotiated an equal merger with his rival, the Key System, gaining full seniority for all his drivers. In 1943. Nick went to Chicago to capture his bride, Mary Limperls and returned to Oakland to build a loving family and share a busy life. He became a pivotal figure in the Greek Community, serving as guarantor, President and.

mostproudly. official Godfather of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension, in Oakland. Nick was involved In many civic and fraternal organizations and past president of the Order of AHEPA. He was also the pyrotechnic parade leader for the Aahmes Shrine Band, often taking his sons with him to the parades. Affectionately known as papa Nick, he most enloyed the role of Santa Claus to his family, employees, fellow parishioners and local Masons.

Besides his widow. Mary. Nick Is survived by his sons Dr. Peter Alevlzos of Piedmont, Chris Alevlzos of San Carlos, granddaughter Maria Keratzldes of Newport Beach. and grandson Justin Alevlzos of New York City.

Nick died In Oakland on Sunday, April 23rd. 'walking his 100th year' as his fellow Greek-Americans would say. He also served as a surgeon on the Good Ship Hope's first voyage to Vietnam In the early 1960's. He was an avid tennis player, skier and windsurfer. He Is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law.
