NEXT WEEK: The winner of this game plays at home against the New York Jets for the AFC title. THIS YEAR: Did not play. THE LINE: Chargers by 1H. KEY INJURIES: Chargers Chuck Loewen (ankle). TE Kellen Winslow (toe), LB Linden King (neck), DT Louie Kelcher (knee) are probable.

Dolphins LB A.J. Dune (toe), Eric Laakso (calf), CB Don McNeal (hand) are probable. LB Ron Hester (groin) is questionable. AT A GLANCE: Call this one "The Greatest Game Ever Pert II This is a rematch of last year's 41-38 overtime spectacular. This should be a good game, but it will be nearly impossible for it to be better than last year's contest.

The Chargers have the league's best offense; The Dolphins own the best defense. San Diego TE Kellen Winslow will always be remembered for his playoff performance against Miami 13 catches and a blocked FG. Overshadowed this season by teammate Wes Chandler, Winslow was back st his playoff best last Sunday, catching two TD passes in the final six minutes as the Chargers beat Pittsburgh. San Diego RB Chuck Muncie had his third consecutive game over 100 yards rushing. Miami QB David Woodley is riding a confidence high after throwing five TD passes in his last two gsmes.

And don't forget backup Don Strock. The Chargers displayed character in coming back from early adversity Isst week. However, Dolphins' coacn Don Shula may never forget last year's playoff loss to the Chargers. His team will be tough to beat Sunday. Pack's Stokes prepared for Dallas bout GREEN BAY, Wis.

(AP) Green Bay Packer offensive tackle Tim Stokes says today's matchup against Dallas the winner of which travels to Washington to meet the Redskins for the National Football Cobnference title Cowboys' defensive end Harvey Martin won't be anything new for him. "Harvey and I broke into the league the same year." Stokes, a nine-year veteran, said when questioned about the challenge in the teams' NFC playoff semifinal in Dallas. "In fact, the first NFL scrimmage I ever played in was against Harvey Martin. "Dallas was training at Thousand Oaks and I was with the Rams. I guess I've played against him at least 10 times." Stokes, who replaced the injured Karl Swanke in the Packer starting lineup two games ago, said the 6-foot-5, 260-pound Martin has "stood the test of time," either leading or sharing the team lead in sacks since he joined the Cowboys back in 197a "Defensive linemen usually dont last that long," Stokes said.

"I've watched him this year, and I think he's playing as well as he's ever played." Stokes' recent performance has also won praise. Last weekend, he and the rest of the offensive line got the credit for helping the Packers to a 41-16 first-round playoff victory over the St Louis Cardinals. Packer quarterback Lynn Dickey passed for 260 yards and four touchdowns in that one. The Cardinals failed to sack the Green Bay quarterback in the entire game. "I'm glad to see our offensive line getting a little bit more recognition," Stokes said.

"I think we've got a good offensive line. I think (center) Larry McCarren obviously is an all pro, and I think Greg Koch is as good a right tackle as I've seen play." Stokes admitted the Packer line has had injury problems, "but at least we've got enough depth to cover up." The Packers listed their top two left guards on their injury report Tim Huffman, who started against the Cardinals, was listed as probable for the Dallas game, although bothered by a back injury. Derrell Gofourth, sidelined for the St. Louis game, was RECORDS: Packers are 6-3-1; Cowboys are 7-3. LAST WEEK; The Packers defeated St.

Louis, 41-16; the Cowboys defeated Tampa Bay, 31-17. NEXT WEEK: The winner of this game plays at Washington for the NFC title THIS YEAR: Did not play THE LINE: Cowboys by 7. KEY INJURIES: Packers Doubtful Derrel Gofourth (groin) is replaced by probable Tim Huffman (back). Cowboys DT Don Smerek starts for John Dutton (thigh), who is doubtful, as is RB James Jones (knee). FB Ron Springs (knee) is questionable.

Dextor Clinkscale (thigh), Michael Downs (foot), WR Tony Hill (hip), DE Ed Jones (knee). WR Drew Pearson (knee-hand), Kurt Petersen (knee), Howard Richsrds (ankle), OB Danny White (right thumb-thigh) are probable. AT A GLANCE: In last week's victory over Tampa Bay, the Cowboys didn't get any sacks, but the pass rush was a constant bother to Bucs' QB Doug Williams The Dallas rush will need a similar effort against Green Bay. Packers OB Lynn Dickey is a pocket passer who needs time to find his receivers. His targets are WRs James Lofton and John Jefferson, with former TCU player Phil Epps in reserve.

TE Paul Cottman is solid. The Packers' running game is led by Eddie Lee Ivery. His running mate, Gerry Ellis, is a top pass catcher. The Cowboys appear to have shaken off their season-ending slump. However, John Dutton's absence leaves the defensive line mighty thin.

When WR Butch Johnson is in the game, look for him to be thrown to and look for him to catch the ball. RB Tony Dorsett went over 100 yards again and appears to have benefited from the shortened season. listed as doubtful because of knee problems. Green Bay coach Bart Starr said Huffman would start against the Cowboys, and Gofourth hopefully would be available as a reserve. Starr said rookie Ron Hallstrom has been practicing as a backup at the guard positions in case Gofourth cannot play.

The Cowboys, meanwhile, said quarterback Danny White's thumb and wisdom tooth should be no problems for the game. The Cowboys said the game, scheduled at Texas Stadium at 1 p.m. PST (TV, channels was a sellout Hart will return to Cardinals ST. LOUIS (AP) Quarterback Jim Hart has agreed to a one-year pact with the St. Louis Cardinals and will return for his 18th season with the National Football League club, officials said this week.

Terms of the agreement were not announced, but it is believed Hart will be paid between $325,000 and $330,000. Hart's salary was $302,500 in 1982. Hart, who will be 39 in April, served effectively as a relief quarterback for the Cardinals during the 1982 season. Defense keys Miami charge vs.San Diego MIAMI (UPl) It was a week BUI Arnsparger really earned his paycheck. Miami's defensive coordinator has molded the Dolphins Into the league's stingiest defeasive unit, but it will take all of his skills to carry out an effective game plan for today's AFC semifinal playoff game against San Diego in the Orange Bowl at 9:30 a.m.

PST (TV, channels The winner earns the home field advantage in the AFC title game next weekend against the New York Jets. The Chargers' offensive engine has been revved ever since the players' strike ended and one of the most devastating attacks in NFL history will be seeking to place San Diego in the conference title game for the second time in three years. Today's matchup pitting the league's No. 1 offense against the NFL's No. 1 defense also marks the rematch of last year's memorable divisional playoff game in Miami.

After jumping to a 240 lead in the first quarter only to fall behind, the Chargers tied the game late in regulation and staggered to a 41-38 triumph on Rolf Benirschke's 29-yard field goal just 68 seconds before the first overtime period was to expire. "I was absolutely numb," recalls Miami defensive tackle Bob Baumhower. "Our training room looked like a combat rone. It's something anyone who played in will never forget." Led by the cool hand of Pro Bowl starting quarterback Dan Fouts, the Chargers (7-3) averaged 450.8 yards per game during the regular season, the third-highest igure in league history. San Diego's average of 324.7 passing yards per game set an NFL record and the Chargers have not been held under 30 points since the third week of the season.

Fouts, who set NFL playoff records for most pass attempts (53), most completions (33) and most yards (433) in the overtime thriller against Miami, threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns in Pittsburgh last week as San Diego rallied in the final minute for a 31 28 playoff triumph. Tight end Kellen Winslow the hero of last year's game with a playoff-record 13 catches led the AFC in receiving for the third straight season and fellow All-Pro Wes Chandler was the only receiver in the league to reach the mark. Even more discouraging for Charger opponents, Fouts is nearly impossible to sack as All-Pros Doug Wilkerson and Russ Washington key a big, mobile offensive line. Why not just suck up against the Chargers' unparalleled air game? Check with the Steelers, first. With the Pittsburgh defense primed for a Fouts' air raid during the Chargers' game-winning drive, San Diego instead handed the ball to Chuck Muncie, who enters today's matchup with three straight 100-yard games.

But the Chargers, slight favorites despite playing in the Orange Bowl, aren't underestimating the intelligence of these Dolphins. "We had our first meeting Monday," says San Diego safety Tim Fox, "and the first thing coach (Don) Coryell told us was that we had to be prepared to play six or seven quarters. We all know it's gonna be a dogfight." The Dolphins (8-2) posted their first post-season triumph since Super Bowl VIII by whipping New England 28-13 last week. Coach Don Shula who received an electrifying 403-yard performance from backup Don Strock against the Chargers last year is buoyed by David Woodley's showing against the Patriots. Woodley hit on 16-of-19 passes for 246 yards and two TDs as Miami craftily mixed the bullish runs of Andra Franklin with the passing game.

"We're so much more mature than we were a year ago," says Baumhower. "Last year, we were supposed to be an 85 team and we went into that Chargers game with very little confidence. "We kept coming back in that game and the feeling has carried over. We know now we can play with any team in the NFL we're as good or better than anyone." While San Diego's offense offers the craftsmanship of fine crystal, the Chargers' defense even under new coordinator Tom Bass has embraced a "bend-and-break" philosophy; in the last five weeks, the Chargers have yielded an average of 33 points per game. Those numbers are enough to make Arnsparger order two-a-day practices, yet Shula tries to keep a straight face while praising the Chargers' defense.

"They are more of a contain-type club under Bass," he says, referring to the former architect of Tampa Bay's swarming defense. They'll give you a lot of stuff underneath, but they'll basically stop the long pass and the long run. "They don't gamble as much as they used to and their defense is definitely improved." Tim Fox, obtained from the Patriots in the off-season, remembers watching last year's Chargers-Dolphins classic on television and he offers a stern warning to the weak of heart "I kept thinking how incredible the game was and how it kept going and going," says Fox. "Now that I'm on this team, I know why we won. I can see how it happened and I think the rematch is going to be a very similar Montgomery Wand Runabout Radial tire Reg.
