"We don't own the station yet, and it would be inappropriate to say anything about what we may do, beyond saying that the company is looking at alternatives in programming." KKHI program director Bill Lueth said Wednesday that station employees are in the dark over Westinghouse's plans, "but we are expecting some changes. It's a long shot that it (the format) will not change." "We do know that they (Westinghouse stations) are big on news," continued Lueth, who admitted he was not optimistic about retaining his job. Based on Group W's reputation, he said, "it seems fairly certain that there will be some, if not all, news broadcasting on either AM or FM." The classical music station, which has been operated by Buckley Broadcasting since the early 1960s, has a staff of more than 20. Surveys have put the number of weekly Bay Area listeners to KKHI at about 280,000, according to Lueth. KKHI-AM and FM, the voice of the San Francisco Symphony and Opera, has been purchased for a reported $14.2 million by the We8tinghouse Broadcasting which owns KPK-TV (Channel 5).

An agreement to buy both the AM and FM frequencies from the Buckley Broadcasting Co. was signed last Friday, according to Gil Schwartz, a Westinghouse vice president. Final approval of the deal by the FCC is not expected before February. "We are thrilled to be adding San Francisco to our list, said Westinghouse President Dan Mason. "By making this acquisition, we are once again pursuing our stated strategy of building strength in top 10 markets." The New York-based broadcasting giant would neither confirm nor deny rumors that a plan being considered for KKHI calls for replacing its classical music format, on either the AM or FM frequency, with all news soccer's 1994 World Cup Final Draw in Las Vegas next officials said Wednesday.

The 90-minute show will start at noon Sunday, Dec. 19, for the draw that will determine which, teams from the 24 qualifying countries will play each other in the opening round and at which venues for the tournament starting next June. Manilow, lgiesias and Vanessa Williams are among the entertainers who will perform live during the show for an audience of 3,500 invited guests at the Las Vegas Convention Center. John and Stewart will perform via satellite. Actors Tom Selleck, from Los Angeles, and Lou Gossett, from New York, will present video highlights of each of the nine U.S.
