"Do you like this?" he asked his caddie. "Yeah," was the quick reply. "Think this will come out decent?" Bradley asked. "Yeah," was the answer again.

Bradley, taking advantage of a good lie in the rough, knocked his approach shot within 12 feet of the cup, then rolled in the birdie putt to win the rain-soaked Buick Challenge in a five-way playoff. The victory, Bradley's first after four years on the PGA Tour, came on the first hole he had played since Friday. Rain washed out the third and fourth rounds, forcing a playoff among the second-round leaders, which included defending champion Fred Funk. "It was one of those days where you didn't know what was going to happen," Bradley said. "Will we play nine? Will we come back tomorrow? It kind of kept us in limbo all day." The tournament was reduced to 36 holes when Bhowers washed out most of Saturday's round and struck again Sunday after an hour of play.

The rain lasted for about two hours, leaving the Callaway (p III I' t' -4 x' 1 I fc rh ft) A 2 t- Jk" rC J2t vn: GOLF Gardens course unplayable. Since less than half the field had completed the round, PGA officials reverted to the second-round scores. Bradley, Funk, Davis Love IIL Len Mattiace and John Maginnes, all at 10-under-par 134, warmed up for about 15 minutes, then headed for the course for the first time since Friday. Meanwhile, players like Jay Haas, who had gotten within one shot of the leaders by playing 15 holes in 7-under par in the third round, saw their efforts erased from the books. Johnson's in the money CORNELIUS, N.C.

One week later, Trish Johnson turned the tables on Dottie Pepper, and this time it wasnt about international pride. It was about $75,000. Four strokes behind Pepper at the start of the final round of the Fieldcrest Cannon Classic, Johnson shot a career-low 8-under-par 64 and won the $500,000 event by three shots. "I don't know where it came from, really the best round of golf in my life," said Johnson, who one week earlier was part of the losing European team that couldn't hold off the U.S. squad on the final day of the Solheim Cup competition.

The Americans rallied for the victory by losing just one of the day's 12 singles matches. Included in that total was the match in which Johnson built a 1-up lead on I 10 GAME PLAN Join us for 10 exciting games including match-ups against Shaquille O'Neal, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Kevin Johnson John Stockton. APJCHN HAYES Galaxy's Chris Armas uses his head against Clash in first half Sunday. Draguicevich and Wynalda out of series decider ByJoMphDWippolito SPECIAL TO THE EXAMMER PASADENA During its second game of the Major League Soccer playoffs, the San Jose Clash displayed a style resembling one seen in the past two World Cup finals: Emphasize defense, rely on counterattacks and maybe win in a shootout For 84 minutes, the strategy worked. But soccer is a 90-minute game.

The Los Angeles Galaxy scored twice in the final six minutes for a 2-0 victory Sunday in front of 27,833 at the Rose Bowl. The result forces both teams to decide their best-of-three series Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Rose Bowl. The winner will play either Kansas City or Dallas in the MLS semifinals. The Clash lost more than its advantage in games.

Two key players, Eric Wynalda and Oscar Draguicevich, will miss Wednesday night's match after each received two yellow cards. Wynalda pushed Jorge Salcedo from behind in the 28th minute for the first yellow card and pulled Cobi Jones down from behind in the 87th minute for the second. "I got tangled up with Cobi and he took a dive and hell tell you that," said Wynalda, known for his consuming intensity as the national team's all-time leading scorer. "If I was in the same situation as Cobi, I would've done my best Greg Louganis impersonation." Draguicevich, who was replaced in the 87th minute, received two in the 90th: one for entering the field to argue with referee Joshua Pa-tlack, the other for abusive language. Two yellow cards equal automatic ejection and result in suspension from the next game.

Clash coach Laurie Calloway said both players would be fined and seemed especially disappointed with Wynalda'8 ejection. "He has to curb that petulance a little bit," Calloway said. Johnson, a native of Bristol, England, who currently resides in London, btrdied two of her first three holes on the vay to a bogey-free final round that was two strokes lower than her previous best score in nine years on the LPGA Tour.

Colbert putts to payoff CLEMMONS, N.C. Jim Colbert never saw it coming, but he sure blindsided the rest of the Senior Tour field, stringing together some clutch putts over the final five holes to win his third Vantage Championship in six years. Colbert, who won $225,000 to close the gap on money-leader Hale Irwin, carded five straight 3s on the back nine for a 2-under-par final-round 69. That was good enough for a 54-hole total of 9-under 204 and a one-shot victory over Irwin, Kermit Zarley and Gary Player in the $15 million event second richest on tour. "We just kept plugging away until it happened," Colbert said of him and his caddie.

Calloway, however, said replacing Draguicevich might pose a bigger problem, since defender Troy Dayak is out with a herniated disk in his neck. "He's been playing very well in the last two, three games," Calloway said of Draguicevich. "He's been marking down and playing everybody we've asked him to. "If the (ejections) stand, I might have to play." Draguicevich'8 performance Sunday was part of San Jose's strategy to take control through defense.

From the opening kickoff, the Clash relied on tight, physical man marking to clog the middle, force Los Angeles to attack from the wings and frustrate the Galaxy's main threats: Jones, Mauricio Cienfuegos and Eduardo Hurtado, the league's third-leading scorer. San Jose also would double-mark any player deep in the Clash's end, and even send in a third player to clear loose balls. The strategy resulted in nine fouls and three yellow cards for the Eliminate excessive fullness of eyelids, lines and wrinkles without a skin Incision, using the new Coherent UltraPulse Laser Technique. But San Jose failed to control the midfield, and the game changed when Los Angeles goalkeeper Jorge Campos moved to forward in the 56th minute. "We tried to come around the corners more, and Campos is very good at that," Galaxy coach Lothar Osiander said. "Then we sent Cobi around the other corner and had Chris Armas come up the middle. They broke the defensive pressure." Defender Robin Fraser broke the tie in the 84th minute. Fraser secured a loose ball, dribbled from his side of the field and fired a 20-yard shot The ball glanced off defender Eddie Lewis' hand and past goalkeeper Dave Salzwedei.
