HOME BURGLARIZED. William M. Hayden's Residence On North Morley Street En- tered by Burglar. From Sunday's Daily. Friday afternoon William M.

Ilayden visited a neighbor loav ing her n-sidenoe on North Morley but carefully looking tho door. During her absence some one entered the house and carried away a pocket which was lying in a press in the back room or sitting room. The pocket book contained two bills and one -fl 0. The loss was not discovered until yesterday morning when M'r. Hayden wanted some money to pay his hands.

When he went to get the purse it had disappeared and all search was unavailing. Mr Hayden has no idea of whom the guilty party imry be thinks if yas some one who knew of the spot, where the door key is usually left when the family goes visiting. He reported his loss to the police but as the number of the bills are unknown has little hope of their recovery. Mr. Hayden the well known lionise mover.

Par dee Has Flown. Pardee, who claimed to be professional ball pitcher in hard circumstances, has left our city after a stay of a week or more. In the annual Ward school.con- test at Halloran's theatre Friday night Cecil Spurling of South Park carried off the honors as the best elocutionist among the girl con testa Miss Jewell Man- gns of Central a close second. Irvin of South Park was decided the best boy speaker and Hubert Powell of Central was second.

The entertainment was the best- that hns ever been given under the auspices of our public schools. The best talent from the four ward schools had been carefully selected to participate in the program and the honor of each school was reposed, in the representative who was designated to contest in the elocutionary line. A gold medal was offered for the best, girl contestant and one for the best boy orator. South Park was upheld by Cecil Spnrling and Irvin Sparks; West Park by Esther Box and Robert Kandolph; East Park by Ruby Do Wort-and Bert Crumrinc, nnd Central by Jewell Mnngus and Hubert; Powell. The judges were gentlemen connected with the educational institutions of Mexico, Monroe City and Huntsville.

Theirs was a difficult t-ask but their decision in awarding the medals met with the hoarty-plandits of the immense ahdicnce. So well. did. all the contestants aecpiit themselves that the unsuccessful ones were aw-ardcd gold pins. In addition to the contest, which we cannot elaborate, on for want oi: space, there were other fine numbers on the program, chief of which was the "Tom Thumb Wedding" rendered by the little ones of -East Pnrk.

The youngsters in evening goAvns and full dress suits looked very charming and went through with their parts without an error and to the great delight of the audience. "The any Little. Last week 1 a local contractor made application, for six carpenters but could only secure one.

He is this week also on the look out for capable men but will likoly have to wait until the Union c-an bring in some men before he will get his wants supplied. The Union last week received four 'applications for membership and the men will go to work at once. Well posted men say they never saw more building going on at this season of'the year than is being done today in Moberly. Fully fifty citizens are contemplating erecting new residences -and from contracts now on hand and in sight every craftsman in Moberly will be kept busy all sum iner. If our boosters Land the electric road proposition Moberly will boom this year as never before and it will be a substantial growth too.

MOBERLY FIREMAN'TO WED G. R. Cannon Wall This Week Wed Popular School Teacher at Truesdale. an apology for not being able to learn the bride's name the Monitor this morning announces the marriage of: G. R.

Cannon of this city, which will occur one day week in Truesdale, Mo. The bride to. be is a popular instructor in the public schools at Truesdale, and is held in the high est esteem by the people of tlvat community. Mr. Cannon is -a fireman in the employ of the Wabash and is one of the most deservedly popular men on the road.

LILLY RE-ELECTED Bel Ragsdale yesterday sold to J. IT. Nolen, of Eolia, through the Geo. W. Sparks Realty Company, his handsome residence, taking as p-art of the consideration in the deal a stock of merchandise located at Eolia, Mo.

The transaction involved 'about $1.2,000. sand constitutes one of the most important trades of the present season. Mr. Nolen has secured a fine piece of residence property and Mr. Ragsdale is thoroughly satisfied with his end of the bargain so it is apparant that both parties have done well in the deal.

Mr. R'agstlale will either bring the stock of goods to Moberly and dispose, of it hero or else speculate with it. Prom the price of this property it is apparent that Moberly real estate still maintains its full value with prospects of going high er. We trust th-nt Mr. Nolen will re move to Moberly and identify him self with our business interests.

Danley, formerly trainmaster i'or the Wabash at this place, arrived in Moberly last night after an absence of about two years. Mr. Danley left here to accept a position in railway work in Costa Rica, Central America, and now returns to Missouri after resigning as superintendent of the American Fruit company's railway In that country. He had a splendid position, but preferred living In his native land and is back with, us again, moved back to this His family have city from Colorado Springs and are today moving in- the Embree property on South Clark, Ireet. Danley has been offered a good position by the Rock Island and leaves Monday for St. Louis to arrange the Popular Educator Will Head Moberlv Schools Again President and Vice President Also Retained. The Moberly school board held a very important meeting last night and reorganized for another year. Superintendent J. C.

Lilly was reelected, to that position and his selection meets with the hearty approval of everybody interested. Mr. Lilly is one of the ablest educators and most thoroughly posted school men in Missouri and under his supervision the public school system of our city has developed until it stands now without a peer in lire interior of the state. Ho is withal a most agreeable gentleman and his selection to head our schools for the sixth term is practical as well as popular. J.

S. Bowers, who has for many years been associated with the management of our schools as a member of the board of directors, was last night re-elected president of the board. No man in our city has taken a deeper interest in the welfare of our schools and no man has accomplished greater good for them. Geo. Manuel has devoted much' time and attention to those interests and his re-election is a "recognition of the value of his services. PHILIP CRAIG DEAD Former Moberly Business Nun Passed Away Recently in 3fcdoc Missouri. The Monitor today received a letter from Mrs. Ida Marcum of Medoc, in Jasper county, rural route No. 1, In which the writer states that Philip Craig, formerly a business man of Moberly, died recently at that place.

Mrs. Marcum states she wishes to advise Mr. Craig's relatives of his death, but thiit she wrote a letter to his son, Fred Craig, in Moberly and the missive was returned to her, Fred Craig, not then being a resident of this city. Mrs. Maddox Improving 1 Engineer 1 IX Maddox came up from St. Louis yesterday and reports that his wife, who recently underwent an operation at Deaconess hospilal is recovering nicely. Mrs. Maddox is daily regaining her former strength and it is thought she will he able to get about her room the end of this week.

Mr. 'Maddox returned to St. Louis yesterday evening. SECURED 415 ACRES. Samuel Sullivan, of Chicago, have arranged with our farmers for 415 acres of land in this county to be planted in tobacco this season.

Altogether they have contracted for IfiOO acres and they figure this will produce two million pounds of tobacco. Going To Colorado. Mrs. T. B.

Earnhart. of this eity is to depart the middle of this week for Colorado where she expects to spend the summer.
