Grizello of Muncie Ind is visiting with her uncle Postmaster Cohenour in Kingman She will probably remain here for some time having accepted a position in the post office Martin and Edmund Lincoln of Cottonia are reported very ill with typhoid fever Mr Martin has been the one factor in the promotion of the big works along the Colorado river destined to reclaim about 40000 acres of fertile lands Superior Court will convene in Kingman next Monday About one hundred jurors will be in attendance and as many witnesses There are not many criminal causes on the calendar hut there are many old civil causes that will bo wiped from the docket bo fore the term ends Mrs A Studley leaves tonight for Flagstaff where she will join her husband who is organizer for the Order of Moose Mr Studley has organized a large lodge of the order in the Skylight City and will continue the work in several other towns in the vicinity Fred Morrison at one time district attorney of this county was a Kingman visitor Thursday last coming hero from his home in Los Angeles He reports that he is doing a nice business in the Angel City His many friends hero are pleased to learn of his prosperity and hope he will continue the good work Walter Brown late sheriff of this county who has been attending the session of the state legislature returned to Kingman several days igo and will look after important personal bus iness in this and Coconino counties He is interested with Ed Haskin in the cattle business in Coconino county and has one of the finest herds of cattle in the state Don Stewart and Miss Emma Rupp were united in marriage at the residenco of Ottho Skaggs in Kingman last Thuraday afternoon Rev Clydo Deming officiating The happy couple are well known in Kingman Mr Stewart being the local Santa Fo agent and Mrs Stewart having been one of the efficient operators of the Western Union The newly married couple departed on the afternoon train for a honeymoon on the coast Their many friends bid them bon voyage at the train MOHAVE COUNTY MINER KINGMAN ARIZONA MAY 4 1912 Howard Kemper Shoots Himself The people of the town of Kingman received a great shock yesterday when it was reported that Howard Kemper had shot himself to death at his homo on South Front street some time the night before From the appear ance of the body he had laid himself down on the floor of his room and placed the muzzle of an automatic revolver to his mouth and fired a bullet through his head When found his body was cold in death William McKay having some business with Kemper had gone to tlie house and gained admittance through the rear door In looking through the rooms he found the unfortunate man as above described Mr Kemper had gone home early in the afternoon after writing some let trs to his wife and others and it is supposed the thought of suicide was uppermost in his mind He had been ill the past month and financial difficulties added to his unhappy state of mind Mr Kemper came to this county a most twenty years ago and is popularly supposed to have received 400003 from the sale of placer ground to the French company that operated the Tom pie Bar mines in the nineties Much of the money was lost in speculation and lie soon found himself in difficulties While unable to control any large amount of money since that time lie appeared to be getting along nicely but sickness in his family and other troubles whether real or fancied were too much for him and lie probably concluded to end it all He was well liked by all who knew him and these friends will learn of his untimely death with sorrow and regret Mrs Kemper is very ill in a San Francisco hospital and it is feared that grave consequences would result were she to learn of Mr Kempers death A wife and two children and a brother survive him The funeral will take place from Elks Hall tomorrow promptly at 2 oclock The services will be conducted by the Elk lodge Odd Fellows Building Association The past week has brought the Odd Fellows Building Association and the contractors together and contracts have been signed up and the bonds for the performance of the work approved The contractors are expected here from Phenix Monday next and the work of getting the foundation the big building in place will be commenced at once The contractors are among the most reliable contracting firms of the state and expect to erect the building within the specified time The building is to be erected on the lots belonging to the Association on Beale street and the location is one of the most sightly in town When completed the building will be one of the most substantial of the public buildings of our little city May Pole Dance The May Pole Dance given at Elks Hall last Wednesday evening by the Catholic ladies of Kingman was one of the best attended and most enjoyable allaits given in Kingman in many years The ladies havinsr the matter in charge did all in their power to make a success of the undertaking and that they succeeded is evidenced by the receipts which run well over 190 The house was crowded to the limit and the dance and refreshments were enjoyed by nearly everyone present the only thing lacking was enough refreshments to satisfy everyone to the full In this regard the ladies having charge of the enterprise wish through the MiNKit to thank the people for their patronage and for the kindly aid extended by the good people of the to Killing at Hackberry This morning at Hackberry a white man shot and killed a Mexican sheep herder but we are unable to get details of the killing Imperial Valley where he has been for several months Attempred Murder Last Wednesday afternoon Skidmore made an assault upon Herbert Schader at a mining claim on the southwest side of -the Tom Keed and shot the latter in the chin the bullet penetrating the jaw below the line of teeth and knocking Schader down As soon as Schader recovered from the shock of the impact of the bullet he started to run down the hill and Skid more again tired at him but fortunately the bullet missed its mark From what we can learn of the cause of the murderous action of Skidmore it would appear that there has been a dispute between Jack Karlinand Skidmore over the title to certain mining claim abuting on the Tom Reed This dispute between Karlin and Skidmore was settbd in the Superior Court last week in favor of Skidmore but there was another party claiming a fraction of ground the title to which was not quieted by the Karlin Skidmore suit and this party employed Schader to look after the title work for him During Wednesday Skidmore appeared at the mine and ordered Schader off and Schader ordered Skidmore off Along in tho afternoon during the absence of Schader Skidmore came to the shaft where the men were at work and ordered them away from the claim He picked up rocks and made threats against them and when Schader appeared he told the men that he was going to get his gun and shoot Schader Going to his cabin Skidmore armed himself with a pistol and told a bystander that he was going to shoot Schader and then went to the mine when about thirty yards away ho stopped and aimed his pistol Schader who was standing at the shaft asked him what he was going to do with the gun when Skidmore without replying fired the bullet striking Schader as above described Skidmore was arrested and at a hearing before the Justice of the Peace at Goldroad Thursday was bound over to the grand jury under bond County Attorney Herndon went out to Goldroad and prosecuted the cause and Moroney defended The
