He was great-great-grandson of William United Empire Loyalist, who founded the village of Merrickville in 1789 and a grandson of the late Henry Merrick M.P.P. and Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party in Ontario for 16 years.

Dr. Singleton gradu-ated in Dentistry from the University of Toronto in 1917: He enlisted in the Canadian Army Dental Corps upon graduation. After his discharge two years later he engaged in private-dental prac tice in Toronto. Until his retirement he bad serve as well for many years in the school dentistry Division of the To ronto Dept. of Public Health.

Possessing a strong character he was highly esteemed and well known for his professional and humanitarian inter ests. He also followed many literary pursuits, having been a founding member' and first president of the Toronto Literary Society. For some time he had served on the executive of the Branch of the Dickens Fellowship. As a gifted writer he contributed to many leading publications. Dr.

Singleton was married twice, his first wife, the for- mer Alice Mary Verntr, daughter of the late Canon W. W. Vernon D.C.L. of Toronto, predeceased him in 1961. He was also predeceased in 1966.
