Pop resistance during the Holocaust, has died of cancer. She was 89. Professor Syrkin, who taught English and the humanities at Brandeis University in Waltham from 1950 until her retirement in 1966, died Wednesday in Santa Monica. Her first book, "Your School, Your Children," published in 1944, urged schools to teach democratic values. In 1947, she published "Blessed Is the Match: The Story of Jewish Resistance," a work baaed on interviews in Palestine with survivors of the Holocaust who had joined in uprisings against Nazis in Warsaw and other cities.

"Golda Meir Woman With a Cause," published in 1964, was a three-volume biography of her friend, the late prime minister of Israel. 333-0161 Retired Superior Court Judge Andrew J. Eyman, called "the peppery judge" in his years on the bench in San Francisco, will be buried Monday at the Coachella Valley Cemetery in Palm Desert. He and his wife, Ann, had lived in Palm Desert since his retirement in 1970. She died last April. Judge Eyman died Wednesday in a convalescent hospital in Santa Clara.

He was 89. Born in Joliet, 111., he ran away from home to join the Army and serve in France in World War then worked as a stevedore in San Francisco to earn his law degree at San Francisco Law School in 1936. He had worked for the district attorney's office and the U.S. at tomey before his appointment to the bench in 1959. He caused a stir when he offered probation on the condition that a youthful prisoner attend church regularly with his parents, and again when he ordered young of fenders to attend night school as part of their probation.

Korea pacifist EXAMINER SEOUL BUREAU SEOUL Ham Sok-hon, South Korea's most revered philosr opher, theologian and pacifist, who had been the conscience of his people for more than half a century, died Saturday following a long ill ness. He was 88. A Quaker who sometimes was called South Korea's Gandhi, he spent a lifetime in nonviolent struggles for freedom. He never hesitated to speak out against in justice. His nonviolent defense of free dom landed him in prison six times from the period of the Japanese colonial rule through the three au-thoritarian governments of Syng- irian Rhee, Park Chung-hee and Chun Doo-hwan.

"Ham Sok-hon is a man Korea could not get along without," poet Ko Eun said. "He has been our conscience. He has continually re minded us of the necessity of jus tice." Reginald T. Buckner Jazz pianist UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL MINNEAPOLIS Reginald T. Buckner, an accomplished jazz pianist and composer and longtime University of Minnesota faculty member, died of cardiac arrest Saturday at Methodist Hospital, a spokesman said.

He was 50. Mr. Buckner, who had his own jazz trios and quartets, was active in the Twin Cities Jazz Society and was a board member for many years. He wa9 current president of the Black Music Educators of the Twin Cities and also was active in the National Association of Jazz Educators.
