Local mliiers and mine owners are watching the ttabiUhraent of this plaut with mnoh IntoreU They say it success anim a great deal for the mlniug induitryand that section and they believe in prooen will be a success It will be of intprcist to Arizonans to know that congress has appropriated 500003 for the expenses of the geological survey in their miueralogi cal duties The greater portion of this um will be expended iu Arizona and the intentiou ie to have corps of officers stationed iu those seciioua of the min eral regions that are ubstaiitially rated in mining development and which also produce ores containing every grade and character of mineral The wisdom of expending this sum will have a beneficial effect on the mine and the miner demonstrating the modes of treatment required in the first aud enlightening the latter in knowing the character of his product Tho creation of this commission will givo out mineralogical conditions a decided promiuenco also Wlckenburg Herald Gradually Information is leaking out in regard to Hffalrs at Cananea which are most startling in regard to extravagant management of the property during the past two years whereby it is alleged that large Bums of money bavo beeti squandered Groene It I alleged has lot control and tho new manBge meut attempting to reorganize the forces and bring Bomo order into the business It is even alleged that the last dividends were not regular as they were paid while the company owed vast snms of money Tho capital stock was recently Increased C00000S for the purpose of taking up all out standing iudbbiodness but it is stated that the mouey derived from the sale of this stock was diverted Into other ohaunels There can be no question but that the affairs or the company are in a greatly muddled and taugled con rlltlnn Some sensational developments may be expocted to follow shortly Douglas International A dispatch from Helena Montana says Montana has given evory prom soooud Butte so far as ise of having a copper mining is concerned While rich discoveries wore originally made last fall the ore was not nearly as rich as that uncovered this spring in the Tarbox mine at Saltese Missoula conn ty Reports of an exceedingly rich copper gold strike have juit been received from that place One sixty pound piece was extracted last week from that mine which was nearly solid copper and of the romaining ingredients gold predominated The discovery of this phenominally rich ore has created not a little excitement and the predictions that another Butte will soon be iu existence find credence in mining circles Stato Mine Inspector lioward Welsh who has returned from there has no hesitancy in pronouncing the discoveries as among the richest in recent years so far as the red metal is concerned The ore on au average so far as developments have gone is nearly twice as rich as that of Butte the worlds greatest mining camp and the ore bodies have been exposed for a considerable distance showing the existence of buried fortunes Dr Force superintendent of the Gila Piual mines company was in Florence Monday for the purpose of ascertaining about the arrival of recently ordered machinery for hU mines which is expocted at Cass Grande this week An air compressor steam hoist aud Leyuer drills are on the way and as soon as they arrive active operations will beln on the companys property A shaft will be rapidly Mink to a depth of 300 feet and cross cuts rnn at dif ferent levels to tap several veins which show ou the surface A bunk house boarding house aud oflice buildings have been erected at the camp and matters are assuming a very btiMuesg like appearance All the buildings are upon the hill above Mineral Creek A pipe line from the well in the creek will convey water to tanks which will supply the camp The property is lo uatod about one and one hnlf miles from Hay Charles Force the general manncer is expected here from the east tlU week and will remain until all the contemplated work is well un dor way Arizona Blade On Monday of this week there arrived from the Palmarejo mino iu western Chihuahua 3003 pouuds of cyanide slimes that contained silver and gdd of the value of 133000 gold all frinnua ino iths cleu up This is the best the mine has ever done al though it has yieldel in the neighbor hood of 5000 1 to 000008 gold every mouth since the cyanide plant was put iu about May of last year Dividends have since been paid the first that have resulted from the mine after about 10 years of operation aud tho spending of loooooo pounds sterliug in a superb equipment and exploration The present success is duo to tho management of Oxnara a welllcnown mining engineer from California Tub prooe in use at the mine when he took hold of it was a drj crushing roasting and pan amalgamation Mr Oxuam introduced the cyanide process The discrepancy fn the yield for the month just brought in and previous months is supposed to be accounted for by the report that has gotten arouud that ore from tho mine has boen treated direct and not the old sorted dumn that the plant bad beon ruunlng on finco last May The ore Is silver gold and is situated in the gold bearing bolt that runs northerly nnri nnntherlv through the western part of Chihuahua from the Dolores mine to and beyond Urique The company owning the property is an English corporation aud nothlug but the butt dogged tenacity Englishmen would have held them to it through all the yoars of loss The company owns 4oooo acres of land much of it rich in mineral Chihuahua Enterprise An El Paso dispatch says The greatest excitemont prevails at the Parral Chihuahua miuiug camps be cause of the discovery of the richest body of ore which has been made since the opening of the Parral camp It waa made at the Hidalgo mines within a few hundred yards of the town of Parral and tho news of the strike was brought to this city by Robort Long superintendent of the propetty The towil KINGMAN ARIZONA MARCH 28 1903 strlko is of a body of ore five feet in width and of unknown depth which runs on an average of twenty ounces of gold and from 2000 to 3000 ounces of silver Tho strike was made in a most unexpected manner last week a few days before Mr Long started for El Paso The body of ore ho says is the richest which has ever been brought to light in a Mexican mine and far outshines the streak which made the Al varado mino famous The vol is a true fissure and is such an ore body as was never before hit in the camp Parral has been noted in tho past for its large number of small but exceedingly rich veins of pay ore In no cae had the ore veins run to a larger width than several inches before What makes the dUcovory all the more remarkable Is the fact that the ore body was not anticipated by the operators of the miuo They of course knew of tho rich veins in which they were working but they had all been heretofore of the oleuder nature of the Pedro Alvarado mine By a sudden lucky series of blasts the wealth of the mountain was di closed and the fortunes of the Hidalgo mining company was made iu that moment The Hidalgo mines are located in a deep canyon about a mile east of the Alvarado The company is composed of all Tex ans a majority of them coming from around Benton They will at once place in operation large stamp mills for the handling uf the ore The Arizona Colorado Copper Beit and Gold Mining aud Milling Company has been developing it property con tinuously since last MHy The prop erty covers an area of 17 claims or over 310 acres three miles from Globe The development on the property consists of two tunnels one 110 feet the other over 201 feet in length a prospecting shaft 103 feet deep and numerous other shafts ranging in depth from 10 to 20 feet also several open cut The compauy is sinking a double compartment shaft which is now 50 feet deep and the working force is being doubled at tliis new shaft The property owned by this company is known as the De Closs group and is said to be a very promising mining property Globe Silver Belt Mercer and A Valentine were both in town this week from the Mercer tunnel at the head of Mineral creek which is one of the most Interesting mining projects under way in this section The tunnel has reached a length of 000 feet and iu order to provide better air a gasoline engine has been installed to run the blower aud it is the Intention to soon employ power drills to expedite the work The tunnel is in a low grade sulphide for the greater part of its length and Mr Mercer estimates that within the next forty or fifty feet it will cut a strong lead which can be traced for a long distance ou the surface and is the same vein on which Feagles Holmes aud McBride made an important strike of ore only a few days ago There are a number of other parallel leads which the tunnel will cut at depths ranging from 2u0 to more than looo feet Silver Beit Fifty Years the Standard 488 BAKING POWDER Awarded Highest
