On one occasion he ssid he earned it in Montreal, and on another that he received it by begging. When the Crown completed Its case, the magistrate dismissed the charge without calling on, the defence.

Chairman William Douglas of the United States Securities Commission told the temporary NaUonal Economic Committee today that the "spectacular" growth of Insurance companies since 1WK3 slone Justified an inquiry into their economic Influence. Hoggard Preacher for 60 Years. Rev. A. J. Hoggard.

91. well-known resident of Manotick for the last 31 years, died on Saturday at his home following an illness of about six weeks. Mr. Hoggard was born at Prea-cott, but to Michigan when years nf age. He studied for the ministry and beceme connected with the Primitive Wesleyan Methodist Church which had its headquarters in the United States.

He resided at Midland. for many years but had preached all over the continent for 60 years. He csme to Manotick 31 years ago. Recently Mr. Hoggard was a patient In the Civic Hospital where he had two operations.

He returned to hlg home about one month ago. Mr. Hoggard was married twice, hlg first wife being Nsncy Ryal, of Michigan, who died 33 years ago. His second wife was Mrs. Gertrude Babbitt, the former Gertrude Thomas, of Wallace-burg, who died 16 years ago.

He Is survived by six sons snd one daughter by his first wife, all living in Michigan: Emerson, Lester, Holly. George. William and Frank, and Mrs. A. W.

Bell: threw step-sons and three step-daughters: Edwsrd Babbitt, of Detroit; Csrl Babbitt, of Syracuse, and Herbert, living in Western Canada; Mrs. Robert Stamp, Mrs. Norman Cook and Miss Ella Babbitt, of Manotick. The funeral service will be held at the residence on Tuesday at 1 p.m., snd the cortege will proceed to Johnston's Comers where Interment will take place.
