Lucien Maynard, Using Alberta's New Scrip, Gets Credit Slip aa Change. EDMONTON, Aug. 8. Cr Circulation of tha Alberta Social Credit Government's first issue of prosperity certificates 350.000 bills, all with a face value of $1 began today. Ons of the first purchsses with eertificatea was made by Hon.

Lucien Maynard, Minister without Portfolio in charge of rertifici'es. He bought white shirt, snd a blue and grey striped tie al a department store. Total amount of the purchase was Mr. Maynard was given coppers snd a nickel as change for two tl certificates he gave the clerk. But other persons will not get legal tender.

Instead they will be given a credit alip for the difference between the purchase price and the amount of the certificates tendered. Seat ta Pay Werkere. All tha first Issue, except a portion sold to souvenir hunters and a few bought by the minister, was sent today to provincial constituencies to be paid to workers as July wagea on various, road construction projects. Some of tha 'certificates, on each of which one percent stamps must ba affixed August 12 and every week thereafter during their two-year life, might be received by the workers tonight, Mr. Maynard aaid.

Foremen and sub-foremen will give workers-their wages. The certificates, six Inches long and 1 3- inches wide, will be valid only if stamps are affixed to them for as many full weeks ss have elapsed since the data of issue of the certificates. The first issue Is dated August S. Stampa are unnecessary until August ll By August 1, 1038, If stamps are attached every week there will ba 104 atamos on each certificate and each certificate will ba re in ed by Provincial Treasurer Charles Cockroft for fl In legal tender. An amending order-ln-counctl giving the Government discretionary power for redemption of the certificates was published today in tha Alberts Gasette.
