The first half of eac year little can be done, but the remaining six montbs are those of activity, and I bone tmt each of you will work faithfnlty for tbe good of tbe Association. Its objects, as you well know, are to roe acute all known violations of the Game Law, and to import various kinds of choice foreign game, birds and fish into this State ana propagate from them.

The climate of California is particularly adapted for this, snd there is no doubt of our ultimate success. We have now arrived at that period of the year when the trapper and market hunter, the pseudo sportsmen who destroy for gain, have com-menced their unlawful operationa calculated to exterminate the few remaining quail in thia State. Xon all know the difference the past few years have made in the number of birds to be tound within twenty or thirty miles of this city. This is not owing to legitimate shooting, but to the horrid practice of trapping and sending tbe birds wholesale to market. Our game laws are bad, and not properly framed for the protection of tbe birds; it will be the duty of this Society to get up a proper code of Game laws, we owe no allegiance to any political party, and if we stand manfully together our voioee must be beard in the Legislature, and the wrongs of the past righted." Adopted.

Gen. Instead of obeying the order the steamer continued to port Laguayra. She afterward proved to be oae of the French mail Line steamers.

Very soon after the Mapaari discovered a steamer coming into Laguayra having a flag of trace at her roretop. Thia proved to be the North German gunboat Meteor.
