I prostitution hearing An age-old judicial drama By Mary Crawford It seemed unreal, like a far-out, one-act play. Except for the backdrop a window with real sunlight shining on the back of straw colored, dyed, waist-length hair have been the stage of the Geary Theater. But it wasn't. It was a Marin County juvenile court hearing room. Those with speaking parts: The judge, with freshly washed gray hair falling over his forehead, giving him a boyish look.

Two attorneys, a man and a woman, for the prosecution and defense respectively. And two San Francisco cops, both young, handsome a and looking deceptively unworldly. The star of the show appeared to be an extra, heavily made up, but with no speaking lines. She seemed to pay no attention to the man sitting in one of four straight-back chairs lining one wall of the tiny room. No one had to be told that he was her father.

Aquiline nose, identical profiles, legs bowed at the thighs, like someone who grew up riding horses. Perfect models for blue jeans no hips, flat stomachs. While her face was placid, his was not. He looked worried. Her face was almost a mask: browntinged eyelids, mascara-laden lashes, wine-colored lips, rouged cheekbones all set against a dead white, perfectly oval face.

There were only two witnesses, two undercover San Francisco policemen, and they told the same story, occasionally checking their police reports. Both explained that one night about three weeks ago they had been assigned the job of helping sweep a Tenderloin street of prostitutes. It was just before midnight and they had returned to the police station to write their reports.
