B5 S.F. EXAMINER Mar. 1, 1034 Second report on Kevin offers 'slim' hopes of breakthrough i i7 i a infill uuTinnQ By Jim Wood Examiner staff writer A second report that Kevin Collins may have been in the Sacramento area was described today as "at best a slim possibility" as police continued their search for the missing San Francisco 10-yearoId. The report came from a Sacramento woman who en tered a frozen yogun snop last Saturday and noticed a boy about 10 years old sit-, ting between two men. The woman thought that something about the boy did not look right, police said, and when she returned home, she told her husband about it.

The husband suggested that the boy may be the missing Kevin Collins, whose picture and description is on posters across Northern California. The couple debated the if I if r-, ra i r-i nm rrn nm rrri Kevin Collins possibility and by yesterday had notified police and a television station. Police said that the lead, like many, appeared to be sincere and could possibly have concerned the missing St. Agnes fourth-grader. However, from the details available, the tip was inconclusive, they said.

An employee of the yogurt shop, after looking at a poster, said the child could have been Kevin, After another Sacramento report that Kevin had been seen last weekend, police issued an 11-state bulletin for two men and a youngster in a 1956-59 model Chevrolet sedan. San Francisco police emphasized that they had no knowledge that the car contained Kevin or his possible abductor. They said that the car was sought so that they could check it out, a routine police procedure to eliminate the possibility that Kevin, who has been missing since Feb. 10 and is feared abducted, was inside. The car, filled with camping gear, appeared headed for the Mother Lode or the High Sierra, witnesses told police.

Sheriff's departments along the Mother Lode were on the lookout for the car, but so far have found no trace of the trio. The reports were just two of several being checked by inland counties after news of Kevin's strange disappearance was aired by Stockton and Sacramento television stations. A third report yesterday had Kevin in a white Ford panel truck Saturday with a young man in his mid-20s. Sacramento police and sheriff's department personnel were kept busy checking out such reports, but although thus far the leads have proven Inconclusive, Investigators urged the public to continue alerting authorities to any possible tips. Investigators said they feared some people with vital information might hold back for fear of embarrassment.

The Kevin Collins volunteers, headed by the boy's uncle, Michael Deasy of San Ramon, continued their push to locate the youngster who vanished after basketball practice the evening of Feb. 10. The boy missed his ride home with a family friend and was last reported seen half an hour later at the corner of Oak and Masonic streets in San Francisco. yflth him on the corner, witnesses said, was a 6-foot tall man with short blond hair and a large black dog, possibly a great Dane. The witnesses, one an adult who knows Kevin well, said Kevin was not talking with the man but appeared interested in his dog.

Kevin was known to have sought out' dog owners in the past so he could pet their dogs. Deasy said that, thanks to a ham radio network, details of Kevin's disappearance were being broadcast nationwide. Deasy said that the MARS network, the Initials standing for Military Affiliate Radio System, would be carrying information on Kevin from 6 to 7 p.m. nightly, 7 days a week. "We're pushing efforts outside The City," he said.

Tomorrow, the volunteers will meet with Faye Acker-man of San Leandro, whose 11-year-old grandson Tony vanished last May on his way to school eight miles east of Reno. The boy has not been seen or heard from since. Acker-man came to the attention of the Collins volunteers after she took down one of the posters seeking help in finding her grandson and replaced it with a poster for Kevin. Kevin Collins is described as 4 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 70 pounds, with brown hair and blue-green eyes. He was last seen wearing brown corduroy pants, a white shirt and a green sweater, the uniform of St.

Agnes School.
