Once again as the annual fair circuit season comes to a climax with a program featuring the $20,000 Governor's Handicap at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento, and Bay Meadows gets under way for 76 days, the cycle of Northern California racing completes a full turn The Fairs to Bay Meadows to Golden Gate Fields, to the Fairs to Bay Meadows. Bay Meadows racing secretary Harry Krovitz finds himself making maximum use of arrivals by way of Vallejo, Pleasanton, Santa Rosa, the San Mateo Fair, Stockton and the California State Fair.

Fifty seven- per cent of horses entered for the inaugural card of the fall meeting opening under the auspices of the Tanforan Racing Association' come directly from fair circuit competi-ton. Four of the 58 runners listed on the first day program for which 101 horses were entered, Journeywood, Siempre ro, Nearcorite and Carlos Villa, drew start-i assignments against Hillhouse for the 23rd running of the $20,000 added Bay District stakes. Hillhouse carries a record of seven wins out of his last eight starts Into the Bay District stakes which matches three year olds over six furlongs. Tomorrow's program at the Peninsula mile course will be heavier in country flavor with 58 of the 85 horses eligible to start checking in from the most successful fair circuit in the United States. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Costello has a six-year regular season record of 331-161 for a .673 winning percentage.
