Roger Daltrey, Charles Gray. Lee Montague, Hildegard Neil, John Standing, Margaret Tyzack. A dismatly Inept suspense thriller, without thrills or suspense, about a Los Angeles couple who go to London and become involved in black magic and satanic rites. Rated R. Evening admission $4.

At the St. Francis, Granada, Serramonte and Geneva Drive-In. I A By Jeanne Miller Theater Critic and the accident demofeftes their bifse. The owner of the car (John Standing), an elegant English gentleman, insists they aeeompany hint to bis home for tea while his chauffeur takes the bike into the nearest village for repair. When they arrive at Standing's magnificent estate, they find a room already prepared for them and a bevy of strange house guests assembled.

All sorts of gruesome murders ensue, most of them resulting from black magic and satanic witchcraft, elements obviously introduced to mask the thin content of the script. Ross and Elliott deliver the kind of wooden, stilted performances necessitated and even demanded by the material. Rock star Roger Daltrey is undistinguished in the role of a crooked record promoter and the others, Standing, Charles- Gray. Lee Montague, Hildegard Neil and Marga- HE LEGACY" tat the St. Francis, Granada.

Serramonte and Gene va Drive-Inl is a dis suspense. Katharine Ross and Sam Elliott play a Los Angeles couple who live and work together as a designer and architect. When she is mysteriously invited to London for an assignment, she prevails on Elliott to accompany Jier, assuring him that they will spend a delightful vacation in the English capital. The reality of their predicament is quite different. For as they are touring the countryside on a motorcycle, they collide with a stately old Rolls-Royce mally inept horror film about mysterious ret Tyzack, most of them English stage actors, make no impression in their absurd and unmotivated roles.

Richard Marquand's listless direction offers little help to the actors. But in all fairness to him and to the performers, a suspense thriller without suspense, thrills or excitement is virtually impossible to pull out of the hat. happenings in a 17th century English manor house. It lacks the most essential ingredients of the genre a taut, well-plotted script and an unnerving edge of Katharine Ross calls on her new powers to save Sam Elliott EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 1. 1979 MAY 01, 1980.
