The things that have happened to starlet Judi Meredith this year have been enough to give any girl a princess complex. She played her first starring role as Princess Elaine in Edward Small's United Artists picture, "Jack the Giant Killer." And she became the first Hollywood June bride of the season yesterday when she walked down the aisle of St. Victor's Catholic church with her real-life Prince Charming, 27 year old Gary Nelson, the youngest director in television. Judi's real name is Judith Clare Boutin. She comes from Portland.

Oregon, of a very conservative family and has two sisters, one older and one younger. I asked her if either of her sisters wanted to be an actress. "No, I'm the only odd baU in the family," she told me. "When I was 8 years old I used to sing for a Hershey bar." Judi's next interest was ice skating. She was so good that at 15 she was invited by Oscar Johnson to join his Ice Follies.

Judi skated with the Ice Follies for two years as a star performer. Then one day she leaned against a loose window casing and plunged forward, breaking her back. The doctors thought she wouldn't walk again, but it wasn't long before Judi had resumed ice skating. Then she fell again this time on the ice and broke her knee cap. That ended her skating career.

"At first I thought it was the end of the world," she told me. "But there was still acting. I begged my father to send me to Pasadena Playhouse instead of giving me a trip to Europe for my graduation present." From the moment she came to Hollywood six years ago there have been plenty of Prince Charmingsto interest Judi. Frank Sinatra dated her. She was Troy Donahue's first girl.

Then there was Barry Coe. But why go into them all? None of them measured up until the real Prince Charming in the person of Gary Nelson came along. "I've known him for three years," Judi told me, "and there's no one like him. He understands my need for acting and he knows already I'm no cook. I hate it so much I won't even let them photograph publicity layouts of me in the kitchen." I asked Judi if she'd ever tried to cook.

"Once," she told me. "I decided to whip up an old fashioned beef stew for Gary. I started at 11:30 a. m. and it was ready by 11:30 p.

m. I cooked it so long it was like mush." Judi admitted to me that she was never nervous before the camera, but the preparations for her marriage caused her all kinds of nervous upsets. "And I got weak just thinking of going up the aisle," she confessed.
