NOTABLE improving along with the economy, sales in most categories have worsened in recent months. In A Charles Haiti invites you to i 'V i holiday gift from Helga Howie In San Francisco. Enough said.

The Chicago Daily News Despite reports of an economic recovery, the electronics industry appears to be trapped in the grasp of the lingering recession. Unit sales of all electronics products for the first nine months of 1975 were lower than sales for the corresponding period in 1974. These statistics, reported by the Electronic Industries measure U.S. market sales to dealers. Color television receivers, the industry's major product, slipped to nine-month sales of 4.5 million units, down nearly 22 per cent from the 5.8 million units in 1974.

Sales of black-and-white sets were down 19 per cent in the same period, from 4.4 million units to 3.5 million. Sales results in the radio category generally reflect the rapidly growing interest in FM radio and a decided shift away from AM only radio receivers. In the nine months, slightly less than 5 million AM-only radios were sold, a drop of 42.5 per cent from the 8.7 million sold in 1974. In the same span, there were 13 million AM FM or FM-only radios, down only 9.7 per cent from last year. Sales to dealers of auto radios were down nearly 17 per cent.

Sales of phonographs were equally hard hit. Portable units, including compacts and components, registered 2.4 million sales, down 18 per cent. Consoles slumped to a mere 360,492 units, down 30.6 per cent.
