So says Ted Voigtlander, the Emmy-Award winning director of photography on NBC-TV's Little House On The Prairie. "He's the busiest man I've ever known, probably because he's also the most generous with his time. In addition to being the star and executive producer of the show, he also directs every other segment, and writes a great number of them.

And still he finds time to spend hours and hours helping people who want to get ahead in this business." A camera operator who had never written a word in script-form recently mentioned to Landon that he had an idea for a script. Landon spent evenings and weekends working with the man until he had prepared a script that was used on the show. He did the same thing for Ri-chalene Kelsay, the show's wardrobe woman. He worked with her until she had a shooting script. "Another crew member who works on the show as a stand-in mentioned to Michael that she was interested in becoming a make-up artist," said Voigtlander.

"He took every opportunity to show her the do's and don'ts of make-up, got her into a make-up school, and showed her reels of film to point out how makeup helped or hurt this actress or actor." Voigtlander points out that Landon spends valuable hours of his evenings and weekends helping people on the show when they express a real desire to learn a new trade. "I've seen him in here on weekends helping writers, actors and electricians learn about editing film. He knows everything there is to know about this business, and he's eager to help anyone who is willing to devote the off-duty hours to learning about film." Voigtlander has a good idea of why Landon is as generous as he is "It's because he drove us all nuts with questions when he was a youngster," says he man who has been handling the cameras for Landon since back in the Bonanza days when Landon first became interested in production.
