POWER FOR THE "DORK" The "Dork," with its clever cartoon mascot, is Classic Caramel's newest product, a taffy fruit chew that's being introduced nationally to con- sumers this year. And it's one more reason the fast- growing York company needs reliable, affordable electric power. Classic Caramel was running at full capacity, around-the-clock, seven days a week to meet new orders from major food manufacturers who are using its caramel and taffy in their sweet food products.

To meet that demand, and to keep making its own line of candies, the company just installed a new cooker that has tripled production capacity. Company President Bob Lukas says Classic success is due to its flexibility and short turnaround time for orders. That means having electric power it can count on all the time. Lukas, who witnessed brown- outs first hand in New England, doesn't want that to happen here. "People don't realize the long term effects of an energy shortage," he says.

That's why General Public Utilities and Duqucsne Light are joining together to import energy from the West. It's a logical solution to the power puzzle. Western Pennsylvania has abun- dant energy, while the demand for it here is great. The goal is to give central Pennsylvania Met-Ed customers like Classic Caramel a depend- able, steady supply of reasonably-priced power to meet current and future needs. And to generate jobs and opportunities for all of us.
