Amusements. A record of Shakespearean successes such as no other actor living can claim renders Charlea Hanford a figure of interest to the present generation, apart from the enjoyment of his art. Mr. Hanford hns each season made a 1 special production of one of the classic masterpieces, never hesitating at the cost when the test suggests sumptuous and spectacular effect. The play selected for exploitation this season la "Tho Winter's Tale." Presentations of the play have been hampered in many cases by the fact that the brief but most effectively comic part of Auto- lycus requires the services of an actor whose experience and capability should not be less than those of the star himself.

Mr. Hsiiford solves this difficulty by playing both Autolycus and Leontes, an arrangement which the fact that the characters are strongly contrasted as well as separated by the arrangement of scenes makes highly advantageous. The role of Hermlone will be assumed by Miss Drofnah, whose felicity In the Interpretation of characters of this kind has won a host o( admirers. Her absence from the stage Jast season owing to illness has made her recent appearances the occasions of the utmost enthusiasm. Mr.

Hanford comes to the Woodland opera house on Monday, February 8th, on which occasion he will present "The Winter's Tale." The next attraction at the opera house will be- Arthur Cunningham Company in Joe Murphy's famous play, "Shaun Rhue." Wbdnesday evening, February 3d. "Shaun Rhue" will always be remembered if only for the fact that it marked another great success for Arthur Cunningham. The former comic opera baritone Is the embodiment of genuine Irish humor and the old songs as sung by the actor will ever hold a place in the hearts of those who hear him. Arthur Cunningham's success is notable. Not since the days of Joseph Afurphy when the Irish actor entertained and charmed the theater-going public with his plays and songs, has an actor come so close to filling his place as Arthur Cunningham.

The actor seems destined to occupy the same place in the affections of the people. Arthur Cunningham is a magnet, and his song, "A Handful of Earth," is so beautifully rendered one feels It Is well worth the price of admission, to say nothing of the excellent company that supports him and the scenic production which is perfect in every detail. Thb COMPANY NOTES Thte meeting and drill of Company Monday evening was one of the best attended for a long time. The boys are manifesting a. lively Interest in their work and will be ready to make a good showing at the next Inspection.

After the serious business of the evening was concluded the boys indulged in their first game-of Indoor baseball. Two teams were picked, one captained by L. Green and the other by F. Smith. The former team won by a score of 11 to 10, after an exciting finish.

The game made quite a hit with the hoys and It will doubtless serve to furnish much harmless pleasure for them In the future. On next Thursday evening the boys will practice with a team to be picked from the ranks of the Native Sons.
