THE GETTYSBURG TIMES, FRIDAY, 7A NL baseball president to speak at Mount Commencement A. Bartlett Giamatti, who retired as president of Yale University to become baseball president of the National League, will be the featured speaker at the 180th Commencement exercises May 22 at Mount St. Mary's College. Giamatti will be awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters degree at the 11 a.m. ceremonies, which will take place in the Knott Arena.

He will be one of four recipients so honored by the college. Most Reverend Robert E. Mulvee, Bishop of Wilminton, will be one of the honorees. He will be awarded his degree at the Baccalaureate ceremonies at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, also in the arena.

Bishop Mulvee will be the main celebrant and homilist at the Mass. On Sunday, honorary degrees will be awarded to Florida artist Edna Hibel and to Alexander F. Giacco, chairman and chief of Himont Inc. in Wilmington. Giamatti retired from Yale in June 1986, the same month of his election to the NL presidency.

He succeeded Charles "Chub" S. Feeney and officially took office in -December of that year. Giamatti is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and 'Science and also the American for the Advancement. of Sciences. He has been honored by the Italian, French and German governments for his achievements, which include many writings about baseball.

Bishop Mulvee was appointed seventh Bishop of Wilmington in 1985. He has been active on several committees of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and is a member of that group's Task Force on Bishop's Life and Ministry, as well as holding other offices. Ordained in 1957, Bishop Mulvee was made a papal cham- berlian (with the title of Reverend Monsignor) in 1966 and named a prelate of honor by Pope Paul VI in 1970. He was named chancellor of the Diocese of Manchester in 1972, and appointed first Auxiliary Bishop of the diocese in February, 1977. His ordination to the episcopacy followed in April of that year.

Hibel, a painter, graphic artist and sculptor, has had one-artist exhibitions of her art on four continents. Her works are included in the permanent collections of museums such as Harvard University, the Fleischmann Collection in Cincinnati, the Detroit Art Institute and the Boston Museum of Art. By purchasing one of her paintings for its permanent collection in 1940, the Boston Museum made her the youngest GIAMATTI American artist so honored by an American museum. In 1977, admirers of her work sponsored the opening of the Hibel Museum of Art in Palm Beach, near Hibel's current home. Her art has been recently exhibited in Finland, Austria and West Germany, and she was the first foreign woman artist invited to exhibit in the People's Republic MULVEE of China.

Giacco has been chairman of the board of Himont since the company was founded in 1983. The company is a subsidiary of Montedison S.P.A., a chemcial corporation based in Italy, and Giacco was named chief executive of that company in April. During his career, he rose through management positions in GIACCO research, production, marketing and other areas to become head of Hercules Corporation, which he joined in 1942. As chairman of Hercules, he created Himont and became chairman of that company following his retirement from Hercules in 1987. He is active in many industry and community organizations, including serving as chairman of HIBEL the board of the Grand Opera House in Wilmington.

The academic process for Commencement will begin at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Accused Adams pornographer serving 6-year sentence in Illinois prison By JEFFREY B. ROTH Times Staff Writer A 60-year-old man accused of operating a homosexual pornography studio in Adams County is currently serving a six-year sentence in an Illinois prison.

John David Norman, formerly of Company Farm Road, Aspers, was charged in Illinois with possession of stolen property and possession of pornography. In August 1987, Norman, who skipped bail in Adams was arrested near the Uni- yerstiy of Illinois.
