JACKIE GLEASOX proves "Requiem For a Heavyweight," is Rod Serling's drama about a beaten-up prize-fighter whose manager is told by the official medico of the sport that his boy must quit the ring. Maish Rennick then schemes to put Mountain Rivera into the wrestling racket so that he may earn beer and yit-tles for himself, his trainer and Maish.

"REQUIEM" HAD its first showings at the Criterion and Kips Bay Theatres last night. The latter house, a 550 seater situated at Second Ave. and Kips Bay Plaza, opened its doors to the public for the first time last night. The film was produced by David Susskind for Columbia Pictures and co-stars Anthony Quinn, as Mountain, Jackie Glea-son as Maish, Mickey Rooney, representing the big fellow's little trainer and devoted friend, and Julie Harris in the role of a welfare worker who tries to get the ex-fighter employment as an athletic director for a boys' camp. THEY ALL LEND an emotional quality to the action that quickens the pulse of the audience.

A number of famous real-life prizefighters appear briefly in the film as themselves, including Jack Dempsey and Barney Ross, lending authenticity to the story.
