Electricians' Strike; Huge N.Y.

Layoff NEW YORK, Jan. 12. (UPI) The Nation's largest city began to feel the first major effects of the citywide electricians strike today when thousands of workers re ceived layoff notices and $1,000,000,000 construction work was slowed. An official of a large contractors group said the electrical workers' walkout would result in layoffs of 25,000 em ployes in related building trades by tonight. George N.

Cohen, president of the Cement League, which does 90 per cent of the concrete construction in Greater New York, said the remainder of the 50,000 workers employed by member firms would be laid off next week if the strike is not settled.
