How about the "Scarlet Letter" for the new "film of NEIL D. BROWN. RADIO MAN, DIES Official of Globe Wireless Succumbs in Washington Word was received here yesterday of the death of Neil D. Brown, widely known communications expert and vice president of Globe Wireless in San Francisco. Mr.

Brown, 43, died Wednesday in Washington, follow. ing a coronary thrombosis. A pioneer in his field, Mr. Brown began his career with the Robert Dollar Company "Dollaradio" in 1928. He was particularly noted for his activities in th Orient, where he headed the Dollar Company's Shanghai station beginning in 1934.

CHINESE ADVISOR. During the 1937 Japanese occupation of Shanghai, Mr. Brown was instrumental in maintaining communications incensor He served as unofficial advisor to the Chinese Ministry of Communications for many years. In World War II, Mr. Brown operated communications networks for the Office of War Information in the Orient and served as deputy director for psychological warfare in the China-Burma-India theater.

BACK TO SHANGHAI. After the war he was among the first to return to Shanghai, where he reopened the local Globe offices. In 1947 he returned to San Francisco to assume the post of operations vice president in charge of systems operations, the job he held at his death. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Basilette A.

Brown, and a daughter, Beverley, both of San Francisco, and his mother, Mrs. Daisy Foreman of Yakima, Wash. Funeral arrangements are pending at N. Gray Co. here.

The services will be held here next week. Disabled Vet Hangs Himself The suicide of Leonard Van Dusen, 31, disabled World War Ill marine, was reported yesterday by Oakland police. The veteran hanged himself from a roof beam Thursday night at his home, Silveira Avenue, Castro Valley. Van Dusen, 80 per cent disabled, left a note addressed to his wife, Elaine, 29, which said: "This looks weak, but 1 had to try twice as much as any man." He had been employed as an accountant. VICE PRESIDENT NAMED BY UC Comptroller Corley Promoted To New Business Post James H.

Corley, comptroller of the University of California, has been appointed to the newly-created post of vice president for business affairs at the university. Announcement of Corley's appointment was made yesterday by Robert M. Underhill, secretary-treasurer of the Board of Regents. Corley will assume his new position immediately, LONG EXPERIENCE. Creation of the new administrative position was recommended by President Robert Gordon Sproul, Corley will continue to supervise the functions of the comptroller's office as a part of been associated with the comptroller's office since 1927, starting ished.

Corley, a 1926 business graduate of the university, has been associated with the comptroller's office since 1927, starting as a loan fund clerk. He has been comptroller general since 1940 and is generally conceded to be the chief liaison man between the university and the State legislature. In his undergraduate days, Corley was a hurdler on the track team. He holds keys from Delta Sigma Phi, commerce honor society, and Phi Phi, social honor society. CIVIC LEADER.

He is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and recently served as national president of the organization. In addition, he is a member of Golden Bear and Winged Helmet honor societies and the Big Society. An active participant in civic affairs, Corley has been prominent in chamber of commerce and Community Chest work. He is a former Berkeley city councilman and president of the Berkeley Breakfast Club. Corley, 45, is married and the father of two children.

He resides at 1 Rosemont Avenue in Berkeley. Vet Newsman Dies SAN DIEGO, Nov. Donald H. Harper, veteran newspaperman and the San Diego Journal's first managing editor, died yesterday. He was 56.
