Nunn, C. S. B. of Portland, Oregon lauer are groping through a fog of rumors, still seeking a tangible lead, it was revealed yesterday.

The reports range from an alleged "fixed" race deal to an unconfirmed rumor that Breslauer's murder was not to Serve Liquor even to associate with "Mickey Cohen and his forty thieves," as the little haberdasher and his friends were described in court by Deputy District Attorney A H. McCurdy. Stompanato faces a maximum sentence of six months in jail and $500 fine after being found guilty by a Jury of associating with known criminals. Justice of the Peace Henry H. Draeger set sentencing for next Tuesday.

Stompanato was arrested recently after visiting Cohen's home. Iris Adrian Married HOLLYWOOD, Oct 6. (INS) The marriage of Actress Iris Adrian and Don Schoonmaker, Hollywood camera manufacturer, at Las Vegas, last September 24, has been disclosed. Loses Permit SACRAMENTO, Oct. 6.

(INS) The liquor license of Sherry's Restaurant, Hollywood scene of the recent gangland shooting In volving Mickey Cohen, was revoked today by the State board of equalization. The action was taken after Los Angeles board member William G. Bonelll described the swank Sunset strip night spot as "a place where you walk out of Into a hall of bullets." Bonelll also declared that Sherry's "Is a hoodlum hang-out and a general police problem." The establishment has been closed for some time, officials added. (AP) It's against the law, John Stompanato Jr. learned today, the first "muscle" action on Bay area bookie. One story, which has reached Governor Warren's crime com mission and San Mateo County District Attorney Louis Demat- teis, is this: Some months ago, a Bay area bookie welshed on a bet from an eastern syndicate. He was told to pay up, but refused. BOY STOLEN The syndicate got tough.

The bookie's son, reported to be about 16, was met by some men while returning from school to his Peninsula home. They whisked him away. The father was informed that the boy was being held as "security," and would he kindly pay up. The father did and the boy was returned. Still another rumor being checked out in the week-old Bres-lauer murder is a report that a Member of the Board of Lecture-hip of The, Mother Church.

All-wool. 10 to 20. Gray, blue, brown. big: sum of money was placed with him on an alleged "fixed" race. The bettors stood to make more than $50,000, according to the story.

Another rumor, that a former bodyguard of Mobster Mickey Cohen of Los Angeles is being sought in connection with the slaying, was pooh-poohed yester day. Daly City Police Chief W. W. Sunderland, District Attorney De matteis. and local police work ing on the case denied the report, emphatically.

San Francisco police said a Los Angeles "character" had been in the Bay area earlier this year attending the Golden Gate Fields races. He was suspected of being accompanied here by some of Cohen's henchmen. But there is nothing to tie him into the Bres-lauer case, the police said. Authorities say they are leaning to the theory that the motive in the shooting down of Bres-lauer in Daly City was robbery. CALLS CHECKED Despite the log of rumor, thej4 are still plugging away routinely on more concrete angles.

Thev include an intensive in vestigation into Breslauer's tele phone calls. The Crime commission has reportedly subpoenaed records from the phone company, to check out his bookie tie-ins. Calls are being traced from Breslauer's phone to phones in San Mateo County. San Fran cisco. Reno, and other cities.

Another more tangible angle is information that a week ago yesterday, the day of the shooting, a San Francisco gambler paid $7,500 to Breslauer. The man reportedly has since gone east, in what was described as a business trip. Authorities say they wish to question him, to see if he can shed any light on the slaying. "There will be prompt action against any other places which develop into hangouts for undesirables," Reilly added. "We are determined to drive them out of San Francisco and will co-operate with Police Chief Michael Mitchell in reaching this objective." DOPE VICTIM The order against the Black Cat, located in the city's Bo hemian quarter, came as AFL pickets from the bartenders union ceased patrolling the sidewalk in front of the tavern, for the first time in fifteen months. Sol Stoumen, the owner, said the non-union help had been dis charged and union men hired.

At Ha'toor Emergency Hospital doctors told police she was suffer ing from an overdose of heroin They said there were marks on her arm apparently made by hypodermic needle. Stricter Gun on Gangsters In addition, protect the property of those sportsmen whose guns may be lost or stolen." Howser also objected to the "wild clamor of criticism and charges" arising from the Cohen case in Los Angeles. "Let us not proceed to say that all of those charges were unjustified," he said, "and that there was not a single man in the whole Los Angeles Police Department who should not have been criticized and investigated.

But we are wholly Justified in saying that criticism of one or two individuals should not have been carried to the point where it reflected on the whole department." Howser emphatically repeated previous denials that California has a crime wave, but conceded that "naturally, the rational order of things has gotten out of bal ance occasionally" as the State attempted to absorb its tremen dous population increase. (AP) Milwaukee's shaky gas situation tottered again tonight when pickets appeared at the plant ot the Milwaukee Solvay Coke Company. Howser called for a new and tighter State gun law today, declaring there can be no effective system against violent criminality without a more effective method of firearms reg istration.
