SUMMER SOCIETY ET1 'Enfant Terrible of Belgium Is in Hot Water Again A 1 f- 4 I Vage Tuwdjy, Aug. 17, 1965 5C2H YOUR HEALTH Avoiding Stomach Rumbles What is the cause of the stomach noises and rum-Wings that seem so embarrassingly loud? What can be done to avoid them? The technical name is in itself a rumbling sound, borborygmus. The noises like distant thunder always seems to occur while in a pleasant, quiet atmosphere. It can be embarrassing. The noises are caused by air that is trapped in the intestine.

A small amount of air is normally swallowed while eating or drinking. Sometimes an excessive amount of air is unconsciously swallowed if eating, talking and drinking are carried on at a fast pace at the same time. Some people swallow large amounts of air if they force themselves to belch or take deep sighing breaths. Also, there are some intestinal disorders that can cause the noises. In these cases other symptoms accompany the borborygmus.

Simple eating rules can usually prevent air swallowing. Eat slowly. Pause occasionally. Avoid the unacceptable habit of talking while chewing. Prince Alexandre of Belgium, the "enfant terrible" son of ex-King Leopold and the Princess de Rethy, is in hot water again.

Scrape number one involved a supposed suicide attempt after his romance with Marie Rose Maisin was terminated. Scrape number two was introduction of Christine Davin as "my fiancee" and that was the end of THAT. But now the young Farouk look-alike has REALLY done it. He's reported to be accused of luring a 19-year-old Dutch beauty, Marijke Batselaers, from the villa of her parents at Knokke-le-Zoute on the Belgian coast. Princess Liliane de Rethy, who's been resting at Argenteuil, is "visibly agitated." Herbert von Karajan's latest caper is really funny.

Saying he was disgusted with the way journalists consistently misquoted him, he announced that all future interviews would have to be preceded by a list of written questions and a check for $1,000, which would be returnable only if the print- Examiner photos by Fred Pardini HERBERT von KARAJAN Interviews trailing off apartment in Brindisi and establish a quiet residence in Tuscany. Mrs. Yvor Smitter, the former Leila Burton Had-ley, who wrote "How to Travel With Children in Europe," after actually doing it with four of them, is off with husband and brood for Central America this week. "I just hope they continue to practice what I preached," Leila said on the phone when I called to ask about her new book, "Manners for Boys and Girls," which she's doing for Random House with John Barclay, who's moving his dancing classes to the Pierre in the fall. PRINCE ALEXANDRE In hot water again ed words were strictly accurate.

The only clinker is that since the announcement, requests for interviews have fallen off sharply. The young Duke Amadeo D'Aosta, now serving in the Italian Navy, is pulling a switch by having the same girl in every port on his current Mediterranean tour of duty. His wife, Princess Claude of France, who is rumored pregnant, met the boat in Venice and then drove down to meet it again in Ancona. This '11 be the pattern for the rest of the trip, and then the attractive young couple will give up their Many of the young set are summering at Tahoe. Inhaling the smoke of cigarettes, pipes and cigars while drinking after dinner coffee further induces the swallowing of air. There are mild charcoal medications that relieve the discomfort of gas bubbles. Many safe home remedies are in vogue in all parts of the country. The stereophonic sounds of borborygmus is usually of social rather than medical significance. Yet, a sustained period of such annoyances should be thoroughly studied for the possibility of some important underlying cause.

20 HE 1-42M Boy's Sock Tops Make Darling Doll Dresses I cut off the ribbed tops from my son's worn out crew socks, make a slit on each side (about half an inch, or so, from the unfinished edge) for armholes, sew shoulder seams, leaving an opening large enough to go over the doll's head and make darling doll dresses. Then I overcast the unfinished edges around the "neck" and "armholes" to prevent fraying. Using one pair of socks, my daughter has matching sweaters for her little girl and boy dolls.
