A plea to the free peoples of the world to do all in their power to halt the massacre of the remaining Jews in Nazi conquered lands was voiced by Rabbi Saul E. White before Congregation Beth Sholom on the eve of Yom Kippur. "Not to intercede, even now, when already 3,000,000 Jews have been put in the most cruel manner is to expose our civilization as wanting in and religious foundations." Rabbi White said. At Temple Emmanu-El, Rabbi Irving T. Reichert and Cantor R.

MOURNS CIVIC FIGURE: Natalia Carmen Ynez Demoro Lived to Aid Others By ELSIE ROBINSON The called her "Nat." At first you wondered why--it seemed such an inadequate name for this beautiful, dignified women as you watched her moving down the corridors of the Public Welfare Building on Bush Street, chatting briskly with welfare workers stopping a dozen times between offices to listen to the plaint of some old man or woman, her lovely hands touching bent shoulders, her understanding smile warming faded eyes. Why "Nat?" You realized why when you had known her ten minutes. For there, beneath the trained veneer of the public official old age benefit administrator of the Public Welfare Department. was the gay and friendly, heart of a girl to whom all ailing humanity was one big family to be treated as she would her own, without taint of charity or condescension. GAVE UNSTINTINGLY.

Many great women have moved through San Francisco's public life but none ever gave more unstintingly of herself or left a nobler record than Natalia Carmen Ynez Demoro. Born in San Francisco of a faring captain and his gracious wife, she was part of those opulent days when the daughters of the families went to Miss Head's School in Berkeley and the sons joined their fathers on the decks or took over the big plantations in Central America. This was her heritage as it had been of all her people but it could not hold her. She "wanted to do something for people." It was hard. She was deeply shy despite her beauty and natural mirth.

But the roots of her heart went beyond herself and so, first as a newspaper woman, then through the varied phases of social serv. ice, she climbed the long ladder of success to the greater heights love. DIED SUDDENLY. This week she died, suddenly, with her beauty and youth still unmarred. A brother and two sisters, Rafael, Aurelia and Maria mourn her.

But behind them stand the thousands of invisible ones whose load she had shared, whose courage she had renewed. San Francisco will forever be the poorer because "Nat" has gone. Vandeleur Job Held by Real Charles W. Real, secretary of the teamsters union in Alameda County and vice president of the State Federation of Labor, was yesterday directed to take temporary charge of the office of Secretary Edward D. Vandeleur, who died last Tuesday.

The order came from C. J. Haggerty, federation president, now attending the American Federation of Labor convention in Boston. Real will serve until the next meeting of the federation executive board. Funeral services for Mr.

Vandeleur will be held this morning in Gray's Chapel, Divisadero and Post Streets, at 10 o'clock. Interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery. Governor Earl Warren and Mayor Angelo J. Rossi head a list of honorary pallbearers which includes State, civic and labor leaders from all parts of the State. Col.

Elliott Rites at Presidio Monday Col. William Elliott, 78, United States Army, retired, who died at Newport News, on September 30, will be buried in the National Cemetery at the Presidio here Monday, following services at 2 p. in the Presidio, under auspises of Marine Post Chapel Lodge No. 191, F. A.

of San Rafael, of which he had been a member for more than fifty years. Born in Canada, Colonel Elliott was a resident of San Rafael from childhood to the start of his military career in 1898 as a captain in the Spanish-American War. He later served in the Phiiippine insurrection, and received the Distinguished Service Medal for outstanding service during World War I. Free Film Program "Bring 'Em Back Alive," motion picture of Frank Buck's African adventures in capturing wild animals alive for zoos and circuses, will be shown at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, Lincoln Park, at 2:30 p. m.
