Mr. Dale was good enough to look behind the scenes and come up with the killing switch. Suppose another club were led and Mr. New ruffed it. It seemed very probable that he could then run nine tricks in the red suits.

On the lead of the last red card Mr. Dale would have to get down to two cards. He would have to hold a high club to prevent dummy's jack from winning and there fore would be forced to bare down to the lone king of spades. Dummy would then take two spade tricks, and the contract would be made. Mr.

Dale finally decided that even Mr. New would not go to the six level with two quick club losers. He also decided that another club lead at trick two was far from a safe proposition He killed the chance for a squeeze simply by leading the king of spades. Now the best Mr. New could do was to take eleven tricks.

Leonard Averett of Beverly Hills. The FCC has extended time for completing the station to May 11. Under the agreement, the Averetts will put up 5400,000 to build the station. Doctor Averett was a physician-surgeon practicing in Philadelphia for thirty-eight years before coming to California. NEW TV DIRECTOR Bill Dempsey, who made an award winning name for himself as KPIX educational direc tor, has been promoted to pro gram manager succeeding Bob Wassenberg, now station man ager for KTVU, Stockton.

Bill is a hep boy, chuck full of sparkling ideas. TENNESSEE ERNIE Tennessee Ernie Ford's KRON stanza (Monday through Friday, 12 noon) is the first, but not necessarily the worst, new teleseries of 1955. Only time will tell If others are as aimless. Ernie was out of his country style element in the "College of Musical Knowledge" revival. He's still 'way out of bounds in this daytime attempt to imitate Garry Moore, Bert Parks, Bob Crosby and the happy-go laughable cut-up kids.

On ABC and CBS radio, Ernie turned his nasal baritone loose on western ditties, hPlbilly gaps pnd peetar strumminqr novel ties. He was doin? the what comes naturally.
