Snow will fall over the northern mountains and penetrate south to near Yosemite. The snow level will be near 7000 feet. This is expected to be an intense storm but visibilities will be very low at higher elevations where the winds will be stronger.

The southern portion of the State will be fair except for the coastal low overcast. It will continue cool through Monday. Dr. Suraci, born in Oakland and schooled at St. Mary's College and Marquette University, died in his sleep early Wednesday, apparently from a heart attack. in his home at 914 Wartield Avenue. Baseball Writer Dies at 80 NORTH WOODSTOCK (Conn.) (AP) Roscoe McGowen, for 30 years a sportswriter for the New York Times and a former president of the Baseball Association of America, died yesterday. He was 80.

When McGowen learned he was dying of lung cancer 1 he wrote the news to his friend and fellow sportswriter, Red Smith. "I was neither surprised nor shocked," on learning about the illness, McGowen wrote to Smith, who ran the letter in his column in the World-Journal-Tribune. McGowen told Smith, "I'd like it spread around among my friends so that if and when I do run into them they'll be relieved of any embarrassment about being sympathetic." McGowen, who was born in Alta, Iowa, for years covered the Brooklyn Dodgers. Survivors include a son, Deane, now a sportswriter for the Times. Hedwig Fontein Funeral services for Hedwig Jaeggi Fontein, a violinist in the Oakland Symphony Orchestra 1 for 19 years, will be held today at 2 p.m.

Mrs. Fontein died at an Oakland hospital Thursday, after a long illness.

When the blues market collapsed, he went back to farming near his hometown of Avalon.
