nation The Examiner luumn no TMponsihlllty fnr errore raueed hy last mlmiu ehantea and 30 years before he found the King at the hour of the Crucifixion. Richard Kiley, playing "Artaban" behind a beard, gave the most stirring performance since William Warfield did "De Lawd" in "Green Pastures." It was a "Kraft" milestone, up there with "Titanic" and "Patterns," which also starred Kiley. The color was gaspingly beautiful, so exquisite it seemed NBC was running a sneak preview of its magnetic tape, due next April. "Playhouse 90" tried the "wagon train" technique, Thursday night. Though occasionally tedious for viewers, the performers had a brawl, particularly Kathryn Grayson as "Lone Woman," an attractive Cheyenne wed to fur trader Scott Brady, the latter day Chester Morris.

Kathryn stole his horses, fought him like a saber toothed tiger, made with love talk, saved a newborn baby's life and risked her marriage defending a murder suspect. Jack Lord emerged from a fist fight with his smashed face looking like a werewolf dragged through the mud. Raymond Burr did the "Perry Mason" bit in western garb. Vincent Price had the most fun as an evil character who could have been a Mississippi River rogue out of Mark Twain. When he became too obstreperous, One Shot Scott killed him with one shot.

It ended as most Westerns do with a chase as Scott pursued Kathryn across the prairie, knocked her off her horse and they wrestled all over again. Eddie Fisher is taking singing lessons for the first time in his life. Good! It's a real pleasure to listen to him these days. Eddie's half of the Fisher-Gobel tandem is rolling nicely. Gobel's is not.

Because I hate to be a dumb ox all the time and because I usually can answer the simple questions on "Tic Tac Dough," it's a quiz I rather enjoy. The pace is rapid, no tomfoolery. Jay Jackson does a neat emcee job. This week's "Dragnet" was another departure Channel (B CD ffl 82 7 A. M.
