James E. Durkin gave a large reception for their daughter, Jane, and later in the evening, Mr. and Mrs. John'C. Scudder honored their daughter, Susan, at a dinner dance at Presidio Golf Club.

All traces of Christmas were cleared rom the Durkin home last night, to be replaced by a refreshing, pastel pink decor. Guests were entranced by the May-pole effect outside the front door, which was achieved by tall pink ribboned stands. Before Fireplace The Durkins and Jane received in front of the living room fireplace, decorated on either side by ceiling high, gold and white candelabra, each with 12 tapers, which were entwined with pink roses, carnations and camellias. Jane, a graduate of Miss Burke's, who is home from Connecticut College for Women, was dressed in a gold metallic frock styled with a boat neck and cap sleeves and trimmed with a green sash. Mrs.

Durkin wore a brown faille dress with a scoop neckline, tiny sleeves and a slightly flared skirt. In the dining room, bare of furniture, there was dancing to Eddie Harkness' orchestra. Baskets of pink roses, carnation and camellias hung from the walls about this room. In the well of the circular stairs was an unusual creation for the orchids sent the deb. It was a mobile of pink ribbons, twirling down from the second floor to the first, with the flowers arranged inside.

Early Arrivals New Year's greetings took the place of "Merry Christmas," as the crowd gathered. The house was jammed almost from the starting hour of 6 p. with Petcy King, who will present Jane and the 33 other debs of 1957 at tonight's Cotillon, one of the first arrivals. Traditional Christmas decor was the theme of this party, with trees trimmed in pink and silver and fir boughs festooned with the gifi orchids. The receiving line stood before the living room fireplace, which was banked with woodwardia ferns. On the mantel were pink flocked boughs trimmed with silver ornaments. One of the two dining rooms was used for dancing, and the other for dinner. Scudder greeted guests in a gray and green brocaded sheath, and Susan was in a silk brocade frock in green and gold, styled with a cowl neck that formed a shoulder covering. He is the grandson of Stanley H. Barrows of this city and the late Mrs. Barrows and Mrs. Thomas P. McCrea of Los Angeles and the late Mr.
