I have what seems to be very reliable information that Leone was in San Francisco the night of ths murder." One of Leone's sisters, who lives in Albany, and his father in San Francisco both stated last night that the youth had spent the night at the Lombard street address there. The outburst of Mrs. McDonough threw the crowds at the funeral into an uproar.

At once, while the body of murdered Mabel Mayer was still being carried to the little grave in Evergreen cemetery, every resource of the Oakland police department was thrown into an investigation the sun shines brightly in that little city, The application of the Sprinff Valley Water Company to build a new aqueduct from San Andreas to La-Buna Honda, with other Improvements to its system totaling was taken under advisement by the public utilities committee of the board of supervisors following a final hearing yesterday. In her answer to her husband cross complaint, which she filed here yesterduy, Mrs. Agnew denies all his allegations. She did not peel some asparagus stalks as he charged, she said, and wrap them up in brown paper and place them in the oven and tell him that she was cooking tamales. She was not habitually under tho influence of intoxicating liquor, she avers, nor did she associate with one John Doe Johnson, a bootlegger, and sit in his apartment smoking cigarettes.

She asserts that to the contrary her septuagenarian Iiushand conspired with the bootlegger to place her in an em' barrassing position and gave him her pet dog so that Johnson could return it to her nnd thus get acquainted. She adds that Johnson followed up the play by moving to her hotel and so annoyed her with his attentions that she prevailed upon the management to eject him. SENT TO ASYLUM. Police records showed that Mrs. McDonough first appeared at the Oakland Hospital early in October, 1926, when she was arrested for creating a disturbance on the street.

Hospital entries record her as being "very destructive, and inclined te violence," during the several days she was kept under observation. Her behavior was so irrational that on October 7, 1926.
