This is the expensive -r ALT LAKK won a game irom uatc-land yesterday afternoon, on the Oakland proundu and the Oakland team lost a game for Bill James. Bill will do.

He allowed the Bees just nix hits dur ing the nine Innings, and though he walked eight men, we can blame The pcoro was 9 to 3 in favor of the Bees. James' only fault was that he tried to pitch Ag league ball with a bush league umpire behind the plate. According to the ump's dope the plate is round and not square, as we believe it to be, and there af-e no corners on it James experience of yesterday was much like that here of Bill Scott the first game he pitched. Then his teammates tried their best to help the ump along by booting every easy play that came to them. In the pinches with two and three men on the Oak batters would lnvari- ably strike out or pop up an infield fly.

If James can livtrl the same brand of ball he dished out yesterday he will have no trouble winning games, but should Bill get It into hia noodle to hurl just a little bit better he will have his old job in the majors back again. "Ham" Dale Hurts For the Bees An elongated gent by the name of "Ham" Pale pitched for the Bees. Dale 13 just about the same size as Bill James and he can pitch just about as good. He fooled the boys by letting a couple of the brave ones get on the bags and then striking out or making the others pop up. Secretary Wares, who plays second base for the Oaks, took very sick in the second inning of the game and to be retired.

The secretary flpped all proceeding while he clumped over to Ump and held his hand up. The ump' thinking that old Sec wanted a chew of tobacco, called time. Wares forgot to say what was the matter with him and walked back to second, leaving every? body looking foolislj. Frary waved for the game to continue and Secretary came out again Vvrith his hand up. This was suffi-, clent halt for big Rumler, who was reposing on first to walk out and kick him and a boy was dispatched for water.

The game went on finally and then a halt was called to let Pop Arlett fill In in the Secretary's place, he moving off to the clubhouse. Stump Makes Costly Boot Bill Stumpf made the most costly boot of the day when he heaved the ball Into the bleachers with -wo on. Both came home. As we stated yesterday It isn't fair to think and throw at the same time and Bill has a clean The Oaks took a two-run lead in the first. La.no singled and Wares got on through a sacrifice and an er- ror by Byler.

Cooper doubled and Tjanc scored. Wares scored when Murphy hit a fielder's choice down third. In the fourth they got their other run. Bohne singled, took second on a passed ball and came home on Bill James' double to right. James started a little walking festival In the third inning when he passed Maggert and Krug.

Mulvey timidly bunted and was safe on a bobble by Elliott. Rumler walked and forced Maggert to score. Sheeley walked and Krug come in. In ti fourth one more came over. Rumler singled, took second on a passed ball and came home on Arlett's error.

Salt Lake Grabs Four in Ninth When the sixth opened Byler dropped a fast one down third. Sammy Bohne kicked it around for an error. Krug singled and both men came in on Arlett's boot. In the ninth a real slaughter commenced. Krug singled "and stole; Mulvey walked and Rumler singled.

Then Rowdy Elliott pegged one a mile head and two runs came in. Sheeley hit a long fly and Rumler scored. Mulligan walked and stole second and third. He scored on Elliott's boot. The score: 8 ALT LAKE.
