Sportsmen all over California ar primed for killing before the big flights are thinned out and thousands will be out In an effort to bring back the toothsome sprig and mallard, which predominate Just. now. Hunters who have been out during the week have enjoyed far greater success than the, average of the opening, shoot last Sunday. Then the sportsmen were so thick that good results were impossible in many spots. Charlie Kewell and Fred Kewell went down to Mt Kden last Wednesday and had no difficulty in picking off limits.

Spoonbills were quite nu-merous In the region, Louis Thle-baut, Frank Egan, Joseph Mehlhop and Fred Kewell will all be out at Mt. Eden to-morrow, and more than a score of other members of the club will also get into action. Dr. A. T.

Leonard had a limit shoot on the Pastime Club at Mt. Eden last Wednesday, Ed Haughey and Jack Leonard stayed a couple of days on the Alameda marsh and. filled their bags as far as the law permitted. George Franzen, Ed Dougherty, Pete Swan-son, C. D.

Le Gal, Jack Lennon and Charlie Stammer will all shoot on i he Alameda marsh to-morrow. C. Howe, Charlie Urfer and Bernard Lapachet, all of whom had fair success last Sunday, will also be out for the day's sport. The Sulsun marshes are affording good sport, according to A. Heb-gen, who oBJoyed a limit shoot there during the "week, and will attract a goodly crowd.

Henry Sexton, who shot at Hammond island, declares that sprig and mallard are flying thick all through the region. Jack Howard, Joe Garbarlno, Charlie Raynaud, Joe Rldberg. E. C. Conroy and Jack Cattermole will make for the Wingo and Black point districts, where the shooting last Sunday was fairly good, although limits were not numerous because of the large -number of sportsmen out.

In many of the rice districts shooting will be conducted under much more favorable auspices than last Sunday. Much of the rice has been cut during the week, and sportsmen will be permitted to penetrate many of the fields in search of their kill. Native Son Nines to Meet on Diamond The leading teams in the Native Sons Baseball League have hard games to-morrow. South San Francisco parlor will meet Olympus at Vlsitacion valley, while Stanford clashes with National at Ewlng field. Two games will be played at Golden Gate Park, Balboa meeting Alcalde and Sequoia playing Yerba Buena.

Twin Peaks and California play at the Jackson playgrounds, but no grounds have yet been selected for the games between Dolores and Castro srjd Precita and Niantic. Golden Gate parlor will have a strong team in the field for the games against El Capitan at Fourth and Bluxovne struts. aw clan trotting, three in nva, purse $1,000 On Pares lunAniaJuxt). unHniehod). W. H. AVERY- Aisistant General Manager. John Galsworthy The work of John Galsworthy will endure as the finest literature known to our day. His books and plays are accepted models for style and diction.

A Galsworthy novel is of itself a course in English. He is a master of word values and construction, possessed of a simplicity only less amazing than its vitality. Galsworthy uses words like a painter. Under the spell of his art they are colors, shades and tints of infinite clarity brushed upon the pag3 with bold, vivid strokes alive. But Galsworthy's genius rests even more with his knowledge of life, his acquaintance with the forces which dominate and desolate society.

In fertility of plot and control of situations he has no recent peer. His impulse is clean, dauntless, upbuilding. Cosmopolitan pursuant with a policy of presenting only the best fiction and philosophy to its readers now, in addition to such masters as Booth Tarkington, Robert Chambers, Gouver-neur Morris, Maurice Maeterlinck, Samuel Merwin, Arthur Train and Jack London, is privileged to announce the exclusive American publication of John Galsworthy's novels the first of which "Beyond" appears in the current issue.
