These figures show that the combined number of stories In the new buildings erected since January 1 Is 1,782. About 85 per cent of these dwellings and flats, and the figures do not Include about 1,000 permits taken out for alteration Jobs. Figuring the average height of a story at 10 feet, the aggregate height would be 17,820 feet, or a little more than five and one-quarter miles. THE UPPER STORY. A building of such a height would tower ten times taller than Mount and the fastest passenger elevators In the city, running without a stop, would require forty-five minutes to reach the top.
