New capital took hold and prosecuted further work, and at a depth of 1,000 feet splendid ore bodies were encountered. Now, at a depth of 1,400 feet, the company Is "working a body of ore, 2 to 4 feet In width, that averages $100 a ton. The property paid $150,000 In dividends last year and now has $135,000 in hank. The committee also visited the Jumbo Extension at Goldfleld.

Robinson reports that this mine has of ore actually blocked out. Big Receipts of Marin Ferry. The big return that awaits improvement of transportation in Marin county was emphasized yesterday by the testimony of Charles Van Damme, who is interested in the operation of the new ferry service between Richmond arm Point San Quntin. Van, Damme told Commissioner Loveland that in return for an expenditure of $3,000 in the building of wharves at the terminals at Point Costro and San Quentin, the ferry steamer Helen, chartered by the company- had carried in the first month of its operation 1,400 automobiles and more than 10,000 passengers. In June, the second month of operation, 1,500 automobiles and 9,000 passengers were conveyed across the narrow strait that separates Contra Costa county from Marin county.

He said that the ferry had paid handsomely to date. The proceedings yesterday before the commistson concerned the issuance to Van Damme of 245 shares of the Richmond and San Rafael Ferry and Transportation Company's stock, to reimburse him for his expenditures and the cost of securing a franchise from the Contra Costa supervisors. Van Damme testified that the Castro Point Railway and Terminal Company had executed a lease for five years of the ferry slip to the ferry company rent free, and that the agreement provided for a further occupancy of five years at $75 a month. The railway company is controlled by Blake quarry owners. A.

S. Macdonald, president of the Richmond Wharf and Dock Com pany, opposed the application for the ratification of the agreement by the commission. He testified that the title to the tidal land on which the Point Castro wharf stands is now in litigation, his company having appealed to the Supreme Court from a decree condemning the land for railroad purposes, The matter was taken under advisement by the Commissioner. Railroad Commission Notes. The Mojave Northern Railroad has filed an application with the commission for leave to issue its capital stock of $50,000 at not less than par.

This road is to furnish material to a new cement-making plant in San Bernardino county to be built by the Southwestern Portland Cement Company, a West Virginia corporation. The city of Palo Alto has filed with the commission a petition asking that the compensation the city shall pay the Palo Alto Gas Company for its system be fixed. The Monterey County Water Company has applied to the commission for permission to discontinue service in its canal A between the Salinas and the San Lorenzo rivers. Business News in Brief. Yesterday's bank clearings, as reported by the San Francisco Clearing House Association, aggregated $10,516,136.55, as compared with Monday's total.

The following railroad reports came over the private wires: Texas and Pacific Fourth week in June, a decrease of $20,773 in gross earnings; from July 1, 1914, a decrease of $893,852 in gross. Missouri, Kansas and Teias Fourth week in June, a decrease of $65,631 in gross; from July 1, 1914, an increase of $877,966 in gross earnings. The reorganization plan of the Missouri Pacific provides for a $50 assessment on the stock. This exceeds anything heretofore discussed. An increase of rates for the Western railroads, as sought at the hands of the Interstate Commerce Commission, would mean $25,000,000 additional yearly revenue.

A tHr dividend of per cent was declared to-dav by the New Jem; fine Company, which by its action in- iU capital from flo.UUO.CUQ to owchot fRUSINESS EVERY indication points toward a season of unexampled prosperity for the two premier beet sugar corporations of this State. Aithoneh recent advices from Eu rope report that France will harvest a crop of beets only 20 per cent De-low that of last year, Bhould the war endure, no exportation of beet sugar from Germany, Poland, Austria, Bel-glum or Russia can be looked for. Even if an exportable surplus Bhould exist in Russia it will probably never figure in the world's markets. Hawaii, Cuba and Porto Rico will profit materially through the European scarcity and the American beet growing States, including California, in the natural order of things, will benefit proportionately. According to quasi-official data, available yesterday, the Union Sugar Company has under cultivation 8,600 acres, with excellent prospects of harvesting 100,000 tons of beets.

Judging by past years, when weather conditions were less favorable, a yield of about 15,000 tons of sugar may be reasonably expected. Beet sugar is selling at $6.15 per hundred weight, the prevailing differential being 20 cents, as compared with the ruling price for cane sugar. The Union Sugar Company has outstanding 101,200 shares of capital stock of the par value of $25 each. The inclusive cost of its sugar to the company in the past has been about 8 cents a pound. Should this year's crop sell at 6.15 cents a pound of which, of course, there is no positive assurance the net profit for the year will amount to about $6 a share.

The factory will begin slicing beets and making sugar on August 1. The Alameda Sugar Company is depending this year on a supply of beets from farmers, who are growing them under contract. It expects to handle from 60,000 to 60,000 tons of beets and to secure a yield of at least 7,500 tons of sugar. The company's Alvarado factory will begin operations this year on September 1. Both corporations report that the respective crops are doing well.

308 88 (8 Notice to Key Route Bondholders. The thirteen banks interested in the Key Route reorganization issued a notice to the Key Route bondholders yesterday, through the Mercantile Trust Company, limiting the time during which the July coupons would be purchased, strictly to the current month. In answer to the rather strenuous criticism to which the proposed Wll of sale was subjected by some of the bondholders the banks offer the following explanation: These banks have consented to do this buy the coupons) because they think that among the many bondholders there may be some who will be inconveni enced at this time by the default of the San Francisco Oakland Terminal Railways and because they believe that these coupons will be paid by the company during the next few months, during which time it is expected 'that the committee now considering the affairs of the company will have proposed a plan of reorganization which will properly protect the interests of all. It Is hoped, however, that all of the bondholders who can conveniently do so will retain their coupons. The company has sent to all bondholders forms of transfer prepared by the attorneys for the banks, containing stipulations which the attorneys deem essential for the protection of the banks.

If you care to avail yourselves of this, offer you may do so by filling out and signing the appropriate one of these forms and an income tax certificate and present or send the same to this office together with your coupons. This offer will continue open until July 81, 1915. The bonds, whose coupons are Involved, comprise the following issues: Alameda, Oakland and Piedmont Electrlo Railway Company, Oakland Transit Company, Oakland Transit, Oakland Transit Consolidated, San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose Railway, Oakland Traction Company, Oakland Traction Consolidated and East Shore and Suburban Railway. The committee of the San Francisco Stock Exchange, headed by Thomas S. Robinson, has returned from its exploratory ramble through the newer Nevada camps, and has returned frankly enthusiastic. President Robinson said yesterday that as a result of the committee's Investigations, the stock of three new companies would be listed, viz: Rochester Mines Company, Seven Troughs Coalition and Sheepherder's Dream.

The following is a synopsis of Robinson's observations on the three camps visited: Rochester- Is now producing a year, values being chiefly in silver. Company is operating ten stamps with a daily output of 125 tons of ore, the stamp mill being supplemented with two tube mills. Mining is going on now at a depth of 600 feet and a new tunnel, to tap the veins at a depth of 817 feet, is being driven. Should the ore bodies be encountered at that depth, the property will make a very big mine. As things are, it displays eevry indication of permanency.

Ylllard This is a new gold camp, sbout twelve miles from Ixvelocks, Kev. The showings comprise several miles of heavily mineralized country, with free gold showing in spots. The properties have not yet reached that eta re of development where anything definite can be predicted concerning them.
