By WILSON O'BRIEN, Three failing: spark plugs brought California's latest airplane endurance flight to an end at Rosamond Lake, in the Great American Desert, near Mojave, at 11:10 last Saturday night, according to delayed reports just received here.

The plane, a Tlmm monoplan, powered with an L-head Panther motor, had been operating constantly since November and had been flying hours and 48 minutes. An examination of the motor by mechanics and officials of the Shell Oil Company, which fueled the flight throughout, showed no signs of weakness In any parts of the motor itself, aside from the falling spark plugs. The plane made a perfect landing. Warren MacClatchle, Log Angeles manufacturer who designed and bulK the motor, expressed regret at the failure of the spark plugs, as he had hoped to run the motor until it fell apart in the air to test its stamina and reliability. This test was unique In that it was not a test of the physical endurance of the pilots, but' a mechanical test of plane and motor.

Refueling was accomplished every four hours by landing the plane, blocking the wheels and filling the tanks with gasoline and oil with the motor turning over 500 revolutions a minute. At the same time a relief pilot took over the controls and took the plane aloft again. The National Aeronautic Association kept an official check on the flight through its observer, Joe Nlkrant, who watched the plane carefully at all times it was on the ground to be sure that no adjustment were made to the motor. FOR GUAM AND LADRONE ISLANDS vi ft an. (iter atmr Presi both to American steamship com-paniei and shipbuilding concerns alike, will probably take place on December 10, when bids for the purchase of the idle Shipping Board fleet are opened in Washington, D. C. Forty-five of these wartime built craft, which have seen but little service during the past few years, will be sold to the highest bidder and under the terms of sale will be scrapped or converted into barges. The Shipping Board-Merchant Fleet Corporation' decision to sell this large Idle fleet is not only con-Hidered timely by ahlpplng officials here, when their scraping will provide work for many unemployed, but focuses attention on the rapid strides this government bureau making to retire definitely from Je shipping business.

Although it is not believed probable that Pacific Coast interests will bid on this tonnage, due to the expense of transporting the vessels to this coast from their present location at Norfolk, Va New York ihd Philadelphia, it will benefit Pacific Coast steamship interests, te a large degree. JOnly American citizens will be permitted to bid on this craft and tie work of dismantling or converting them will be done in the United Kites under the stipulations set Sewn by the Shipping Board. MENACE OUTLINED. Steamship operators on this coast have always contended that idle fcnits of the Shipping Board fleet Ivas an obstacle in the way of American shipping inasmuch as I hey have from time to time been old to foreign interests and Used competition with American bot-oms. She buried her face in Nora's dress-trembling and sobbing: "Rag manrag man coming!" True enough, up the street came a rags-bottles-sack mar calling his trade. "She's always afraid hell get her," Nora explained. "One rime some boys teased her because) her her dress was so old, and said the rag man would get her If she didn't watch out. Ever since then she has been afraid." Her arm circled the quivering form protectlngly. SAD GOOD-BYE.

"Eight years 1 remember when I first started, and we read about the Little Red Hen" We had reached the curb. "I suppose you can call for your diploma next day," we suggested.
