Many of our readers will call to mind seeing an aged Frenchman, who for some time past has sold boquebj ln front of the Lick House; probably some have patronised him, and these have fragrant memories of his affable address and broken English. He has been missed from bis usual stand since Tuesday last, and this morning the landlord of the house where he lodged, No. 106 Dupont street, took the liberty -of lookiig over the transom of bis room. There, extended at his length upon ths bed, lay the French flower-vendor, dead. Forcing an entrance to the room, the meaua of death were made evident by the discovery of a glass at the head of hi bed.

His counsel mads a motion for a new trial, which wss overruled, and the defend mt was Hoed fifty dollars, with the alternative of twenty-five days' imprisonment in the County Jail in case of fit'-ure to pay. The defendant's counsel stated that His client will probably appeal from the Judgment of the Court.

This is the first conviction under the law which declares It a misdemeanor for any one having charge or custody of books a corporation to refuse a stockholder the right examine the same. The prises won at the late tournament of the California Bills Association, at the Presidio, formally presented to the victors at the armory of the First Regiment last evening. The Fourth Artillery band discoursed some of their most favorite sirs. Louis says the announcement is msde that the United Bates Grand Jury has found indictments against ex-tmted ota tea Assistant Attorneys Patrick and Ernm. ex-United States Marshal Kewoomb, Orvil Grant (brother of the President), General Bab-cock, tbe President's private Secretary, and others. The greatest excitement prevails. The indictments charge them with, conspiring with St. Louis distillers to defraud the Government out of taxes on an immense amount of crooked whisky.

The provisions now on board are of the best quality, and ths only way the matter ac counts for tbe condition of the crew is that they were put on board the ship in New York with scarcely any clothing, and when they got down in bad weather off the Horn, they gave up, one after tne other, irom tne constant exposure.
