Knight, who was in town Friday to accept the Canadian university football coach of the year award from the Car-leton Old Crow Society, feels more emphasis should be placed on draft choices especially the Number one picks. "It would really help university football here if the pro "teams would promote their top picks by making the public more aware," he said. "You know things like having the player's picture in the paper with his folks end the coach when he signed his contract believe me, I think fans would start to look for his number when the season opened," he continued. Knight, whose voice still betrays strong traces of a thick West Virgina accent, feels the quality is improving at a noticeable pace in the Canadian universities. "I don't find there is a big difference anymore between the Canadian and the U.S.

players coming out of high schools," he said. "The U.S. players have a slight edge but the gap is closing," he continued. "Even the players graduating from Canadian universities are as good as 90 per cent of the Americans coming up here for pro tryouts of course there are still going to be exceptions like the Joe Theis-manns, Jim Stillwagons and the Chock Ealeys." Knight, who guided his Golden Hawks to the national final via the wishbone offence with quarterback Wayne Allison at the helm wkll attempt to go the same route against this season. "It's a tough offence to stop," he said.

"I installed it at Lutheran because I thought I had the backs to run in properly" and It was better to have erly and it was better to have them playing than sitting on the bench. "I took it right out of Texas and I feel even some pro teams could run it successfully It's almost impossible to stop it with the standard 4-3 defence," he said. Knight is also interested in having the Canadian university all-stars play the Grey Cup winner. "I said the same thing last fall at the Canadian College Bowl banquet," he said. "We may get beat 48-0 but if we kept the score down say 20-14 it would be like a victory.

"And of course, we would have everything to gain in a game like this and nothing to EXCAVATIONS SEWERS AND WATER MAINS INSTALLED HEAVY EQUIPMENT RENTED grand The bats of Blomberg and Orlando Cepeda, Boston's designated hitter, will be sent to the Hall of Fame in Coopers-town as mementos of the historic event. Oliva, who missed most of the 1972 season because of knee surgery, returned as Minnesota's designated batter lose but it certainly would be good for promotion purposes and I think it would draw," he said. Knight, who was almost resigned to the fact he might have to quit at Lutheran about a month ago because of flnan-c i a 1 difficulties said he planned to stay on for another year. Waterloo-Lutheran has been experiencing budget problems in athletics like most other Ontario universities. However, he's hoping the football program will pay for itself and he feels increased promotion may get more people in the stands.

Peter Thompson, who retired as Offensive line coach at Carleton after five season, appealed to members of the Old Crow Society to help keep intecollegiate sports alive at Carleton. Thompson, who was presented with a special award at the society's annual banquet, is concerned over recent reports the university may have to drop several intercollegiate sports because of a bleak financial forecast for the future. "The intercollegiate program has to be respected," he said. "The intercollegiate program just isn't for the player it is also for the fan and the student if they want to get involved." Carleton fullback Joe Col-vey, who is expected to seek a pro tryout, was voted the teams most valuable player by the players. He was also initiated into the society along with Scott Alexander, Randy Wahab, Mike Smith, Davd Montagano, Dan Wiseman and Keith Phillips.
