WO Othman Unearths Scandal On Avenue Of Presidents By FREDERICK C. OTHMAN WASHINGTON, July 20 (Wilt is tough to be a Washington cop; whatever he does he's wrong. As for 87 suspicious wives (at this writing) they're not speaking to their husbands, while the big-wig sailor, who presumably fixed up the sultry dancer of the rumba with an airplane ride to Hawaii, is on the well-knowin spot. The Navy and. or, his wife will take care of him.

With no further ado lot us consider a case of sin. with a capital- one block and four doors from the White House. Here at 1713 Ponnsylvania-av was located the Science Institute of Physiotherapy, which didn't look scientific to the bluecoals. Having decided it was a bordello (you've got to keep in mind this is a family newspaper), eight nf 'em. led by Lieut.

Roy Blick, raided the joint. Oh-oh. Even the Lieutenant blushed. There were five scientific lady physiotherapists inside, including Carmen Beach, the rumba queen. They were ministering to six men.

"Nekkid," the Lieutenant said. "All of 'em." While the physiotherapists and their patients were getting into their clothes, Lieut. Blick held forth the press on the wages of sin. It's bad enough ordinarily, he said, but it's worse when two of the participants arc high gov eminent officials. "What?" the press demanded.

"I recognized 'em." the Lieuten int said. His cohorts new were sneaking the Institute's personnel and patrons out the hack door. When the reporters caught, up with 'em at the clink, the rumba dancer and her associates were on view. The men had disappeared. They'd been interviewed privately by the head.

cops. Chief of Police Edward J. Kelly said he didn't know anything about government officials in the alto gether. Then he took to his bed. sick.

Double-talk came from the police department. Those goose- pimnled officials probably were clerks, the spokesman said. Lieut Blick was interviewed. "Were they high officials and, if how high?" he was asked. "Who, me?" he replied.

This repartee was reported in the papers and that's when wives of government officials began pestering the police by phone and in person for some inside, coinfiden- tial information on their spouses. A lot of the boys, it looked like, stayed out late that particular night. Miss Beach, who'd been in the toils (what is a toil, anyhow?) of the law before, hired herself a lawyer, M. Edward Buckley. All Barrister Buckley knew, he said, was that his client was a rumba dancer of note.

She couldn't have such a bad reputation, he added, or the Navy department wouldn't have given her a high priority for a round-trip via official plane to vistt her sailor husband in Honolulu. Ulp, the Navy went. Quickly jt said no Naval officer had given Miss Beach an overseas priority. "Then how did she get to Hawaii in a Navy plane?" asked the sellor. He demanded an immediate trial.

The police turned the names of the patients over to District Commissioner Russell Young, who wouldn't say whether he recognized 'cm. The Navy continued its investigation: the sick police chief hired himself a lawyer, the wives kept calling, and you'll be hearing more soon about sin on the Avenue of Presidents. The bedeviled cops arc certain of it. All members of Second Baptist Church are hereby reminded that July 22 is Rally Day. Please bring or send your $5 and pray for its abundant success.

We met there a husky but unassuming man in the person of Christ Brandstrup whose innate cordiality seems to invite one to cajl him by first name. We found him to be possessed of a natural love for flowers and man who fits into his work not by chance but by choice. A Dane by 'birth, Christ inherited the love for flowers and learned the greenhouse art from his father in Denmark. He is a born horticulturist who loves his profession. "Well, I'll tell you," he said later.

"I was like all Danes. We love our home but when we grow up we want to see the world. You know how it is- So I joined the Merchant Marine and sailed the Seven Seas. But he grinned, "I saw no flowers on the ocean and the love for flowers was in my blood. So 1 quit sailing after a while and came ashore to my flowers.

Finally 1 came to Sand-usky, and well, there I am." We'll say that Christ is "there." He calls each little seedling and plant by name and knows its characteristics. From him we gathered some amazing facts and figures about his work amaz ing in the light of shortage of help, material and equipment which war conditions have im posed on his department. When we asked him about the park's Lighthouse that fitting symbol of geographical and civic Sandusky we learned that more than 30,000 individual little plants of a dozen varieties had gone into the tower and into the "Victory" mound upon which it stands! More than 12,000 units were used for the Masonic emblem; almost 5,000 for the Odd Fellows mound, and about 7,000 for the Sandusky bed. With other floral displays in the park having required an additional 20,000 plants, the total soars to an approximate When it is considered that each little seedling, plant and flower had be sot out one by one, and that some flower beds had to be planted for the second and third time, the amount of labor, love and patience which went into the earth with them seems astound ing. Besides, Washington Park represents only a part of the 50- odd acres of parks, playgrounds and cemetery lots with their many urns and flowerbeds which Christ and his helpers maintain.

The total amount of small and larger units of flora set out by them this year is over 131.000! And all of them raised since last fall Crystal Beach Books Ted Weems Orchestra Ted Weems, who recently completed his duties with the United States Maritime Service, has begun life again as a civilian in exactly the same spot where he left off, at the top of the band list. He brings his new band to Crystal Beach ballroom, Vermilion, Sunday evening, July 22. Featuring the old Weems combination of four brass, four sax, and three rhythm, but starring new men in the field, his outfit is equipped to swing 'cm hot or play 'em sweet. Featured with the band are a host of entertainers headlined by Mary Lee, 19 year old singing star of Republic Pictures. She was discovered by Weems when 13 years old in Ottawa, Illinois.

Other featured artists include: Larry Noble, boy vocalist who is recent find of Weems and for whom he predicts a brilliant future; Jimmy "Mr. Piano" Simotiin, whose magic fingers give any song that extra meaning; Tiny Martin, bass playing comic, and Russ Bodine, trumpet vocalist. Service Club Days At Lakeside Are Arranged LAKESIDE, July Plans for Lakeside's annual service club days are nearing completion, with Erie-Huron county club day set for August 1, and Ottawa-co day scheduled for August 7. Program for August 1 is the WGAR radio revue, and for August 7, Lynn Jackson, marimba artist, and Roy G. Howells, humorist.

On both days, dinner at Hotel Lakeside for visiting club members is planned. in the city greenhouse. "Some harvest!" The value at wholesale prices of this output would well exceed $8,000. Estimated commercially, greenhouse space is expected to produce at the rate of $1 per square foot. Christ and his staff have "raised the ante" to $2.

Although new to Sandusky, we feeL that its parks and landscapes represent a triumph of achievement which compares more than favorably with any such beautifi- eation anywhere.
