The project was being held up because of two protests from Melbourne Avenue property owners which had to be heard by the OMB before the work could go ahead. Mayor Whitton said she hoped it was clearly understood this meant Melbourne was deleted, not deferred, from the program. Off Lead Crystal HAND CUT Developer Robert Campeau came in for some high praise from Mayor Whitton at yesterday's Board of Control meeting.

Con. Lloyd Francis said this was in the "man bites dog" category of news. Mayor Whitton's felicitous remarks were prompted by the care Mr. Campeau was taking not to disturb residents of Ri-deau Terrace during construction of his huge apartment block. This care covered the storage of materials, heavy equipment, safe covering of trenches, restoration of the pavement and "corsets" for tree protection.

"He is a model for everyone else in this regard," said the Mayor. Blading Mat The city is going to find out whether it is cheaper to rent a blasting mat at five dollars a day or buy one. Two men who accompanied Weever, Elias Kelly and Charles Borne, both of Pembroke, were rescued after their small boat capsized. Both Accused, Witness Absent Case Dismissed A minor traffic case in which neither the accused nor the crown witness appeared in court was dismissed by Magistrate Joachim Sauve. "I'm assured my client is on has way," said Richard Barber, appearing for the accused, "and I'm willing to let the Crown proceed." The Crown, however, was unable to produce its only witness and the complainant in the case. "I'll have to dismiss this," said Magistrate Sauve. "After all, the complainant certainly should be here." A section of Highway 13, from Smiths Falls to Perth, will become an extension of No. 43, which includes a new section of former county road between Smiths Falls and Winchester. This means that No. 43 will extend from Perth eastward to a junction with No. 34 at Alexandria.

A section of Highway 29, between Smiths Falls and Carle-ton Place bypass will be renumbered Highway 15. This means No. 15 will run continuously from Ottawa to Kingston, via Smiths Falls, instead of Perth. Highway 7 will be extended from Perth to Ottawa, along the present route of Highway 15. This means one may travel continuously from Samia to Ottawa on No.

7, which now ends at Perth. Signs bearing both old rnd new numbers will be installed along the renumbered sections and will remain in use for a year or so, for the convenience of motorists, district engineer Lloyd Walker said. Island Park At Queensway Is Open Again Island Park Drive, closed for -several months due to Queens-jvay construction, has been opened to traffic. Merivale Road extension, a new roadway extending from Carling Avenue northward under the Queensway to Island Park Drive, has not been opened to traffic.
